(Main)Baths - Connecting dimensions
Baths - Connecting dimensions
This European Standard specifies requirements for the connecting dimensions of baths, regardless of the material used for their manufacture.
This European Standard applies to baths used for domestic purposes and complements the standards for baths made from different materials, the existing standards on tap ware and waste fittings (EN 200 and EN 274-1) in terms of their dimensional requirements.
NOTE Only dimensions are compulsory. The shape of the appliance in the figures is for illustration only; it in no way prejudices the shape of the appliance which is left to the initiative of the manufacturer.

Overview
SIST EN 232:2013 is a European standard developed by CEN that specifies the connecting dimensions of baths used for domestic purposes. This standard applies to baths regardless of the material used in their manufacture and ensures compatibility with other relevant standards, including those for tapware (EN 200) and waste fittings (EN 274-1). Its primary focus is on the dimensional requirements for bath fittings, such as waste outlet holes, overflow holes, and tap mounting areas. The standard is essential for manufacturers, designers, and installers in the sanitary appliance industry, promoting interoperability and ease of installation across European markets.
Key Topics
Basic Dimensions: Defines essential measurements such as vertical and horizontal distances between overflow holes and waste outlet holes, height from the floor to the waste outlet, and clearance requirements to ensure compatibility with waste fittings compliant with EN 274-1.
Waste Outlet Hole Dimensions: Specifies the diameter, contact diameter, sealing surfaces, and angles for waste outlet openings to accommodate standardized waste fittings.
Clearance Requirements: Details the necessary free space around the waste outlet and overflow holes for the installation of fittings, along with reinforcement thickness limits.
Overflow Hole Requirements: Covers dimensions, clearances, and material thickness for overflow holes, including flat areas for gasket placement and fitting accommodation.
Tap Hole Specifications: Specifies position, number, and dimensions of flat areas and clearances for rim-mounted and deck-mounted tapware, allowing flexibility in design while ensuring functional installation.
Control Gauge Testing: Provides guidelines on test apparatus and acceptance criteria for verifying the fit of control gauges in waste outlet holes, ensuring dimensional conformity.
Applications
Bathroom Fixture Design: Bath manufacturers use SIST EN 232:2013 to design baths with standardized connecting dimensions to ensure compatibility with taps, waste fittings, and overflow assemblies.
Sanitary Installation: Installers benefit from consistency in bath dimensions, facilitating quick and reliable installation of plumbing fixtures without the need for customization.
Quality Assurance: Standards compliance supports quality control in production, reducing defects related to misaligned or incompatible fittings.
Regulatory Compliance: Manufacturers across the European Union and participating CEN member countries are required to comply with SIST EN 232:2013, supporting regulatory approval and market access.
Interoperability: EN 232 helps harmonize bath fittings across different materials and manufacturers, enabling easier integration with existing plumbing systems and parts from various suppliers.
Related Standards
