EN 12259-2:1999/A2:2005 is a CEN amendment covering wet alarm valve assemblies used in fixed firefighting systems for sprinkler and water spray systems. This amendment (A2) updates material, construction, performance, marking and corrosion-resistance requirements so that alarm valves that previously did not conform can be brought within the standard’s requirements. - Non-metallic elements and bearings: After ageing (Annex F), non-metallic components must show no cracking and must meet leak-resistance and performance tests (C.1, J, E.2 as applicable).
- Clearances and corrosion protection: Sealing assembly bushings or hinge pin bearings must project sufficiently to maintain specified clearances (dimension A ≥ 1.5 mm where adjacent parts are not corrosion-resistant metals). Coatings must show no blistering, delamination, flaking or increased resistance when tested per Annex N.
- Marking: Mandatory marking methods, character sizes and label types are defined (e.g., cast marking heights and minimum projections per Table 1).
- Salt mist corrosion test (Annex N): Defines reagents (5 ± 0.5% NaCl), fog chamber parameters, spray pressure (0.7–1.7 bar), exposure (10 days at 35 ± 2 °C) and a 7-day drying period to evaluate coating deterioration.

standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by August 2007.
