(Main)Piping systems for rehabilitation of underground drains, sewers and water supply networks - Part 2: Thermoset composite materials (ISO 11300-2:2026)
- Abstract
This document specifies requirements and test methods for pipes and fittings which are part of piping systems for the rehabilitation of underground non-pressure and pressure drains and sewers, and of water supply networks which transport water intended for human consumption, including raw water intake pipelines.
This document is applicable to the renovation technique family "lining with cured-in-place pipes (CIPP)". It is not applicable to lining with discrete pipes or lining with pipe segments using glass-reinforced thermosetting plastics (GRP) material, as defined by ISO 11295.
It is not applicable to short lengths of CIPP used for patch repair only of local pipe defects.
It applies to the use of thermoset composite materials with various thermosetting resin systems, in combination with compatible fibrous carrier materials, reinforcement, and thermoplastics membranes (see 5.1).
It is applicable to pipes and fittings, as manufactured, as well as to the installed system. It applies for service temperatures up to 50 °C for drains and sewers and up to 25 °C for water supply networks.
For pressurised networks, this document applies to independent (fully structural, class A) and interactive (semi structural, class B) pressure pipe liners, as defined in ISO 11295, which do not rely on adhesion to the existing pipeline.
It does not include requirements or test methods for resistance to abrasion, jetting, cyclic loading or impact, which are outside the scope of this document.

SIST EN ISO 11300-2:2026 is the Slovenian standard for thermoset composite materials used in cured-in-place pipe rehabilitation of underground drains, sewers and water supply networks. It specifies requirements and test methods for pipes and fittings used in non-pressure and pressure rehabilitation, including water intended for human consumption and raw water intake pipelines, for manufacturers, installers, testers, and buyers who need to check design, testing, installation and traceability.
What does SIST EN ISO 11300-2:2026 specify?
SIST EN ISO 11300-2:2026 covers pipes and fittings for the renovation technique family lining with cured-in-place pipes (CIPP). The standard is written for thermoset composite materials used in the finished liner and in the installed system.
Clause 1 sets the scope. Clause 2 gives the normative references, Clause 3 defines the terms, Clause 4 lists symbols and abbreviations, Clause 5 covers pipes, Clause 6 fittings, Clause 7 ancillary components, Clause 8 fitness for purpose, and Clause 9 installation practice.
The annexes are split between information and test methods:
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Annex A | CIPP components and their functions |
| Annex B | Short-term flexural properties test method |
| Annex C | Long-term flexural modulus under dry or wet conditions |
| Annex D | Long-term flexural strength under dry, wet or acidic conditions |
| Annex E | Examples of methods for reconnecting laterals to a liner |
The scope applies to non-pressure and pressure drains and sewers, and to water supply networks carrying water intended for human consumption. It is not for discrete pipes, pipe segments with GRP material, or short local patch repairs.
What are the key requirements of SIST EN ISO 11300-2:2026?
SIST EN ISO 11300-2:2026 is built around declared materials, verified performance, and documented installation practice. The most important requirements are in Clauses 5 to 9 and in Annexes B to D.
Materials and product build-up
- Lining tubes before cure shall include at least a resin system and a carrier material, and may also include reinforcement and internal or external membranes, as described in Clause 5.1. In practice, the supplier must declare which materials are used in each component.
- Resin systems are classified in Table 2, and the material used for each component shall be declared. This matters because the resin class defines how the product is identified and tested.
- Carrier materials and reinforcement may use specified polymeric fibres, glass fibres, carbon fibres, or combinations of these. Where fibre types are combined, their proportions by mass shall be declared to within 5%. That declaration is needed for repeatable design and conformity checks.
Dimensional and structural performance
- At the “I” stage - the installed condition - the liner shall not create surface irregularities in straight runs that exceed 2% of nominal diameter or 6 mm, whichever is greater. This is the practical limit for hydraulic performance and maintenance access.
- For pressure applications, the installation process shall not create folds or displacement of reinforcement that reduce the declared strength in the hoop or longitudinal direction. The supplier also has to declare the minimum longitudinal radius the system can negotiate without creating those defects.
- For interactive pressure pipe liners (class B), the liner must expand enough under mean operating pressure to close the annular gap created by installation. That requirement matters because class B depends partly on support from the existing pipe.
Material and mechanical verification
- Clause 5.3 requires resin-only testing after cure for temperature of deflection under load. The minimum values depend on resin type and on whether the liner is for drains and sewers or for water supply. This is the standard’s main material screen before composite and system testing.
- Clause 5.5 requires short-term mechanical characterization by flexural properties, circumferential tensile strength, and longitudinal tensile strength. Annex B gives the 3-point bending method for short-term flexural properties, including curved samples taken from actual or simulated installations.
- Clause 5.5 and Annexes C and D cover long-term performance. Annex C gives long-term flexural modulus under dry or wet conditions, and Annex D gives long-term flexural strength under dry, wet or acidic conditions. These tests are used to extrapolate service-life properties to 50 years.
Pressure-network and service-specific checks
- For pressure networks, Clause 5.5 includes long-term failure pressure testing and regression analysis. The document ties allowable operating pressure to the projected failure pressure, so the design pressure basis is traceable to test data.
- Clause 5.7 adds resistance to chemical attack in a deflected condition and long-term flexural strength under acid conditions for drains and sewers. This is important where sewer chemistry or deformation can affect the liner.
- Clauses 5.7 and 8.5 require leak tightness of liner terminations in pressure applications. The terminations are checked with a pressure or air test, so the end connections are part of the verified system, not an afterthought.
Installation, marking, and records
- Clause 5.9 states that the lining tube shall be supplied in lengths that avoid jointing between access points. Where joints at access points are needed, pressure applications require mechanical joints.
- Clause 5.10 and Clause 6.8 require permanent marking and traceability. The marking identifies the standard, manufacturer, size, stage thickness, material, production period, and any approval mark, and for drinking water use it also identifies the product as water-related.
- Clause 9 requires the installation manual to document storage, handling, transport, equipment, environmental precautions, safety precautions, installation procedures, simulated installations, process checks, termination, reconnection, final inspection, and the installation data to be recorded. In practice, this is the evidence trail for a correct installation.
What terms does SIST EN ISO 11300-2:2026 define?
- Cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) - a liner formed when a flexible tube impregnated with thermosetting resin is cured inside the host pipe.
- Liner - the lining pipe after installation.
- Lining system - the lining pipe and all relevant fittings inserted into the existing pipeline for renovation.
- Independent pressure pipe liner - a liner that can resist internal loads on its own throughout its design life.
- Interactive pressure pipe liner - a liner that relies on the existing pipeline for some radial support.
- System test pressure (STP) - the hydrostatic or air pressure applied to the installed system to prove integrity and leaktightness.
- Declared value - the limiting value of a characteristic declared by the supplier and used for conformity assessment.
- Simulated installation - an installation into a simulated host pipeline using representative equipment and processes to create test samples.
Who uses SIST EN ISO 11300-2:2026?
SIST EN ISO 11300-2:2026 is used by CIPP material suppliers, liner manufacturers, installers, utilities, consultants, laboratories, and conformity-assessment bodies.
Manufacturers use it to classify resin systems, define liner construction, and prepare test evidence for short-term and long-term properties. Installers use it to plan storage, handling, curing, reconnection, inspection, and documentation. Buyers, asset owners, and quality managers use it to check whether a proposed liner is suitable for drains, sewers, or water supply networks, including potable-water applications and pressure applications.
What changed in SIST EN ISO 11300-2:2026 from the previous edition?
SIST EN ISO 11300-2:2026 replaces the thermoset-composite parts of ISO 11296-1 and ISO 11296-4, ISO 11297-1 and ISO 11297-4, and ISO 11298-1 and ISO 11298-4.
The foreword states that the merged content also adds or changes:
- additional and amended definitions in Clause 3
- a new material classification of thermoplastics membranes
- an extended material classification of resin systems
- additional requirements for declaration of short-term mechanical characteristics
- an extended classification of lateral connections, including a new class D collar

Introduction
This document is a part of a series of International Standards concerning piping systems of various
materials used for the rehabilitation of existing pipelines in a specified application area. System Standards
for rehabilitation deal with the following applications:
— ISO 11300 series: Piping systems for rehabilitation of underground drains, sewers and water supply networks;
— ISO 11301 series: Piping systems for rehabilitation of underground gas supply networks.
The ISO 11300 and ISO 11301 series are subdivided into parts each covering a specific material or class of
material of the piping system.
ISO 11300 series is subdivided into four parts:
— Part 1: Polyethylene (PE) material;
— Part 2: Thermoset composite materials (this document);
— Part 3: PVC-U material;
— Part 4: Thermoplastic composite materials.
These documents cover various techniques for renovation and trenchless replacement. Furthermore, they
are distinguished from those for conventionally installed plastics piping systems by the requirement to
verify certain characteristics in the “as-installed condition”, after site processing. This is in addition to
specifying requirements for piping system components “as manufactured”.
A consistent structure of clause headings has been adopted for all parts of the ISO 11300 series and the
ISO 11301 series, in order to facilitate direct comparisons across rehabilitation technique families.
Figure 1 shows the clause structure and the relationship between the ISO 11300 series and the ISO 11301
series.
For complementary information, see ISO 11295.
For assessment of conformity to the requirements of this document, see ISO/TS 23818-2.

Piping systems for rehabilitation of underground drains,
sewers and water supply networks —
Part 2:
Thermoset composite materials
1 Scope
This document specifies requirements and test methods for pipes and fittings which are part of piping
systems for the rehabilitation of underground non-pressure and pressure drains and sewers, and of water
supply networks which transport water intended for human consumption, including raw water intake
pipelines.
This document is applicable to the renovation technique family "lining with cured-in-place pipes (CIPP)". It is
not applicable to lining with discrete pipes or lining with pipe segments using glass-reinforced thermosetting
plastics (GRP) material, as defined by ISO 11295.
It is not applicable to short lengths of CIPP used for patch repair only of local pipe defects.
It applies to the use of thermoset composite materials with various thermosetting resin systems, in
combination with compatible fibrous carrier materials, reinforcement, and thermoplastics membranes (see
5.1).
It is applicable to pipes and fittings, as manufactured, as well as to the installed system. It applies for service
temperatures up to 50 °C for drains and sewers and up to 25 °C for water supply networks.
For pressurised networks, this document applies to independent (fully structural, class A) and interactive
(semi structural, class B) pressure pipe liners, as defined in ISO 11295, which do not rely on adhesion to the
existing pipeline.
It does not include requirements or test methods for resistance to abrasion, jetting, cyclic loading or impact,
which are outside the scope of this document.
