Overview

EN 61076-4-107:2001 is a CLC-adopted European detail specification (IEC 61076-4-107:2001) for shielded two‑part printed‑board connectors with a basic grid of 2.0 mm. It covers pairs consisting of a fixed part (with solder and press‑in terminations for printed circuit boards) and a free part (with non‑accessible insulation‑displacement and crimp terminations). The publication also carries the IECQ specification number QC 480301XX0008, indicating assessed quality under the IEC Quality Assessment System for Electronic Components (IECQ).

Key Topics

  • Scope and design intent
    • Detail specification for shielded, two‑part PCB connectors on a 2.0 mm pitch.
    • Fixed part: solder and press‑in terminations; free part: non‑accessible insulation displacement (IDC) and crimp terminations.
  • Dimensional and mechanical requirements
    • Grid/layout guidance, isometric views, engagement (mating) data and mounting information for PCB and panels.
    • Mechanical characteristics: insertion/withdrawal and engaging/separating forces, contact retention, cable‑clamp strength, vibration and shock resistance.
  • Electrical and climatic requirements
    • Tests and requirements for creepage/clearance distances, voltage proof, insulation resistance, contact resistance and current‑carrying capability.
    • Climatic category and environmental test schedules (e.g., damp heat, mixed gas corrosion referenced).
  • Tests and conformity assessment
    • Detailed test schedules (basic and full), gauges and test arrangements for electrical/mechanical verification.
    • Quality assessment procedures: qualification approval testing, lot‑by‑lot inspection and periodic tests per IECQ guidance.
  • Normative references
    • Cross‑references to related IEC/CENELEC standards (e.g., IEC 61076‑1, IEC 61076‑4, IEC 60352 series, IEC 60512 and IEC 60603‑1) for test methods and generic connector rules.

Applications

  • Specification and selection of shielded 2.0 mm PCB connectors in consumer, industrial and communication electronic equipment where compact, shielded board‑to‑cable or board‑to‑board connections are needed.
  • Used by:
    • Connector manufacturers and component designers for product development and datasheet compliance.
    • PCB designers and systems engineers to ensure mechanical fit, mounting and electrical safety.
    • Quality and compliance engineers, test labs and procurement teams requiring IECQ assessed quality and batch inspection criteria.
    • Contract manufacturers (EMS) for assembly guidelines (soldering, press‑in mounting, crimp/IDC termination).
  • Useful where EMI shielding, reliable board termination and assessed quality assurance are required.

Related Standards

  • IEC 61076‑4 (printed board connectors), IEC 61076‑1 (assessed quality generic spec)
  • IEC 60352 series (solderless connections, crimp/IDC/press‑in)
  • IEC 60512 (connector test methods), IEC 60603‑1 (connectors for printed boards)
  • IECQ QC 001002‑3 (IECQ approval procedures)

Use EN 61076‑4‑107 when specifying or approving shielded two‑part 2.0 mm PCB connector systems with assessed quality requirements for reliable electrical performance and manufacturing conformity.

FOREWORD
1) The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of the IEC is to promote
international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To
this end and in addition to other activities, the IEC publishes International Standards. Their preparation is
entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with may
participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising
with the IEC also participate in this preparation. The IEC collaborates closely with the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the
two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of the IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an
international consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation
from all interested National Committees.
3) The documents produced have the form of recommendations for international use and are published in the form
of standards, technical specifications, technical reports or guides and they are accepted by the National
Committees in that sense.
4) In order to promote international unification, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC International
Standards transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional standards. Any
divergence between the IEC Standard and the corresponding national or regional standard shall be clearly
indicated in the latter.
5) The IEC provides no marking procedure to indicate its approval and cannot be rendered responsible for any
equipment declared to be in conformity with one of its standards.
6) Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this International Standard may be the subject
of patent rights. The IEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.

1 General data
1.1 Recommended method of mounting
A connector pair consists of one fixed board connector and one free connector module. Both
modules are completely shielded in order to fulfil future EMC requirements.
Fixed board connector modules are mounted on the edge of the printed board and have
female contacts with solder or press-in terminations.
Free connector modules are mounted on cables and have male contacts with insulation
displacement terminations for standard contacts and crimp terminations for coaxial contacts.

2 Technical information
2.1 Definitions
The terminology used in, and applicable to, this specification is stated in 2.1 of IEC 61076-1.

2.3 Information on application
This specification features a modular system of several styles conforming to table 1. These
styles contain modules for signal contacts and coaxial contacts. The modules have a basic
length of maximum 6 mm. Every style of module has all the features of a complete connector
and can be used on its own.
A polarization system is included in each module.
A range of printed board dimensions can be applied conforming to the termination types of
table 2.
2.3.1 Complete connectors (pairs)
All styles of modules can be stacked in a 6 mm pitch due to uniform outside dimensions.
Information on the contact arrangement (see 3.4.1) and the contact sequencing (see 3.5.1.1)
should be taken into account.
2.3.2 Fixed board connectors
Fixed board connector modules can only be mounted one way into the printed board.
Connectors with standard contacts (style A) have location pegs, which are a part of the plastic
module housing. Corresponding holes in the printed board align the modules and provide
mechanical attachment to the printed board during the soldering process. This design protects
the contacts against stress during mating.
2.3.3 Free board connectors
Free cable connector modules are provided with a positive latch mechanism to prevent free
cable connectors from unmating by vibration or being inadvertently unplugged.
For dimensional information, see 3.8.1.

2.3.4 Accessories
2.3.4.1 Special contacts
Connector modules of several styles may be fitted with special contacts (high current, high voltage).
2.3.4.2 Coding devices
Not applicable.
2.3.4.3 Contact arrangements
Not applicable.
2.3.5 Shielding/grounding
With regard to their possible use in high speed data applications, all connector modules are
completely shielded.
In case of extremely high EMI requirements of a complete system, additional EMI accessories
can be used.
2.3.6 Basic types of terminations
The basic types of terminations are listed in table 2. Dimensional information is given in 3.4.2
for fixed board connector modules.
Table 2 – Basic types of terminations

P Press-in (fixed board connector only)

3 Dimensional information
In order to facilitate comparison of various specifications, a uniform presentation of drawing
information is used, as stated in clause 3 of IEC 61076-4-001.
3.1 General
Original dimensions are in millimetres. Drawings are shown in first-angle projection.
The shape of the connectors may deviate from those given in the following drawings as long
as the specified dimensions are not influenced.
This clause contains all dimensional information.
