Overview
SIST EN IEC 62841-3-11:2026/A11:2026 is a European amendment standard developed by CLC (CENELEC) addressing the safety requirements for electric motor-operated hand-held, transportable tools, and lawn and garden machinery, with a particular focus on transportable combined mitre and bench saws. This amendment introduces updates and clarifications to the base standard EN IEC 62841-3-11:2026, strengthening safety provisions and ensuring machinery aligns with essential requirements, especially under the European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
This standard applies to manufacturers, importers, and other stakeholders involved in the design, production, and use of transportable combined mitre and bench saws across woodworking, construction, and related industries.
Key Topics
Scope and Coverage
The standard covers the significant hazards and hazardous situations relevant to transportable combined mitre and bench saws. Fixed, non-transportable saws are addressed separately in EN 1870-3:2014.Normative References
Refers to related European and International safety standards, such as EN 847-1:2017 for woodworking tools and EN ISO 13857:2019 for machine guarding.Markings and Instructions
Requires clear instructions for users, including the specification to use only saw blades as authorized by the manufacturer, highlighting compatibility and safety compliance (e.g., blades must conform to EN 847-1:2017).Mechanical Safety and Guarding
Details enhanced requirements for protective guards around saw blades and dust collection openings, with rules to prevent accidental contact and ejection of objects during operation.Noise and Vibration Emissions
Outlines the measurement and reporting of noise and vibration to ensure safer operation and user awareness.Battery Tool Safety
Specifies isolation and disabling devices for tools with integral batteries to prevent unintentional startup and enable safe servicing.Construction Guidelines
Provides directions for the construction and adjustment features of fences, guards, and workpiece supports to ensure protection under all conditions.Conformance with Machinery Directive
Ensures aligned compliance with the essential health and safety requirements of Directive 2006/42/EC for machinery.
Applications
Manufacturing
Guides manufacturers in designing and building transportable mitre and bench saws that comply with the most recent European safety requirements, reducing the risk of injury and enabling CE marking.Quality Assurance and Certification
Supports third-party testing laboratories and compliance assessors in evaluating saws for alignment with the standard, ensuring legal market entry within the EU and EFTA zones.User and Workplace Safety
Helps employers, contractors, and end-users select and operate bench and mitre saws with greater confidence in risk reduction and regulatory compliance.Import, Export, and Procurement
Assists procurement teams and importers/exporters in verifying that products meet harmonized European safety standards, minimizing commercial and legal risks.Maintenance and Servicing
Provides technical references for maintenance staff, ensuring safe handling and operation during servicing, especially for battery-integrated machinery.

The Part 3-11 supplements or modifies the corresponding clauses in EN 62841-1:2015 and all of its
amendments and corrigenda (if any), so as to convert it into the European Standard: Particular requirements
for transportable combined mitre and bench saws.
Where a particular subclause of Part 1 is not mentioned in the Part 3-11, that subclause applies as far as
relevant. When this document states “addition”, “modification” or “replacement”, the relevant text in Part 1 is to
be adapted accordingly.
The following print types are used:
— requirements; in roman type;
— test specifications: in italic type;
— notes: in smaller roman type.
The terms defined in Clause 3 are printed in bold typeface.
Subclauses, notes, tables and figures which are additional to those in Part 1 are numbered starting from 101.
Clauses, subclauses, notes, tables, figures and annexes which are additional to those in IEC 62841-3-11:2024

This document follows the overall requirements of EN ISO 12100.
This document has been prepared under a standardization request given to CENELEC by the European
Commission. The Standing Committee of the EFTA States subsequently approves these requests for its
members.
For the relationship with EU Legislation, see informative Annex ZZ, which is an integral part of this document.
Compliance with the clauses of Part 1 together with Part 3-11 provides one means of conforming with the
essential health and safety requirements of the Directive concerned.
Any feedback and questions on this document should be directed to the users’ national committee. A complete
listing of these bodies can be found on the CENELEC website.
