Overview

ISO 11111-3:2005/Amd 1:2009 is an important international amendment to the standard governing safety requirements for nonwoven textile machinery. Published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), this amendment updates the original 2005 edition, ensuring enhanced safety guidelines and regulatory compliance for manufacturers and users of nonwoven machinery in the textile industry. It aligns safety protocols with evolving technological advances and addresses key operational risks associated with nonwoven fabric production equipment.

This standard is a critical part of the ISO 11111 series, which broadly covers safety measures for various types of textile machinery. It serves as a benchmark for safety and risk mitigation, helping organizations reduce workplace accidents and comply with global safety regulations within the textile manufacturing sector.

Key Topics

  • Safety Updates for Nonwoven Machinery
The amendment refines safety requirements specifically tailored to nonwoven fabric production machines. This includes updated machinery guarding, control measures, and operational protocols to prevent injuries.

  • Integration with Other ISO Standards
The document references and aligns with complementary ISO standards such as:

    • ISO 14121-1 (Risk Assessment Principles)
    • ISO 9902 series (Acoustic Test Codes for Textile Machinery)
    • ISO 13857 (Safety Distances to Prevent Access to Hazardous Zones)
These references help ensure a comprehensive approach to machine safety, risk evaluation, and noise emission control.
  • Noise Emission Requirements
The amendment mandates that noise emissions from nonwoven machinery be measured and declared according to ISO 9902 parts relevant to nonwoven production. This addresses both harmful noise levels and compliance transparency.

  • Access and Maintenance Safeguards
Specific technical provisions are outlined for protecting machine openings used for cleaning and replacing needle boards on nonwoven equipment. Lockable doors or panels with interlocks linked to machine controls are required to prevent access during hazardous operations.

  • Terminology and Reference Updates
Updates include replacement of outdated references and revised normative citations to reflect the latest editions, ensuring harmonization with current international safety language and technical standards.

Applications

  • Textile Manufacturing Plants
Ensuring nonwoven machinery meets ISO 11111-3 safety requirements helps textile manufacturers improve workplace safety, decrease accident rates, and meet legal safety obligations.

  • Machine Manufacturers
Designers and manufacturers of nonwoven machinery can use this amendment to validate their equipment conforms to up-to-date ISO safety standards, boosting market acceptance and trust.

  • Safety Compliance Auditing
Safety officers and inspectors apply the standard as a guideline for evaluating machine safety, noise emissions, and guarding adequacy during compliance audits.

  • Risk Management and Training
Organizations incorporate the standard’s principles into their risk assessments and employee safety training programs to mitigate operational hazards related to nonwoven textile machinery.

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies
(ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO
technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been
established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and
non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2.
The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards
adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an
International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent
rights. ISO shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
Amendment 1 to ISO 11111-3:2005 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 72, Textile machinery and
accessories, Subcommittee SC 8, Safety requirements for textile machinery.

Avant-propos
votants.
