Clause 4.3, Figure 5, Tables 3 and 4 replace the reference data for typical North American threads. For designers and inspectors, this means the thread profile, dimensions, and tolerances used for valve protection caps, valve guards, and cylinder neck rings must follow the updated values in the standard.
Clause 7.1 now distinguishes between maximum dimensions and a maximum dimensional envelope. In practice, this gives users a clearer basis for describing what is being checked: a simple overall size limit or a more complete outline of the guard.
Clause 7.2 e) 2) now says that, for valve guards, the dimensional envelope must include the external dimensions, at least L and R, and the arrangement of physical features, for example in a schematic drawing. This matters because a guard is judged not only by size but also by shape and feature layout.
Clause 7.7.8 states that changes to the valve design, such as material, connections, or handwheel, do not require further evaluation for valve protection caps and valve guards. For valve guards, however, adding or changing the position, arrangement, or orientation of physical features of the protected valve compared with the original test valve needs further evaluation to decide whether the drop test must be repeated.
Clause 7.7.9 says that additional changes to the valve design, including material, connections, handwheel, or physical features, require further evaluation to decide whether the drop test has to be repeated. For manufacturers and test labs, this is the key change-control rule: a modified valve may invalidate earlier test evidence.
Clause 9 removes items b) and c) and renumbers the list. For users, this is an editorial cleanup, but it affects internal references in procedures and quality documents.
