Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide
federation of national Standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The work
of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO
technical committees. Esch member body interested in a subject for
which a technical committee has been established has the right to be
represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental
and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO
collaborates closely with the Initernational Electrotechnical Commission
(IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization. .
Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are
circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an International
Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting
a vote.
International Standard ISO 7228 was prepared by Technical Committee
lSO/TC 121, Anaesthetic and respiratory equipment, Sub-Committee SC
2, Tracheal tubes and other equipment.
This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition
(ISO 7228:1985), and introduces revised requirements for the internal

Introduction
This International Standard is one of a series concerned with the safety
and Performance of anaesthetic and respiratory equipment; its main pur-
pose is to specify the essential dimensions of tracheal tube connectors
without unnecessarily restricting details of design.
Tracheal tube connectors are required to incorporate 15 mm-sized male
conical connectors in accordance with ISO 5356-1, in Order to mate with
the coaxial 22 mm male/15 mm female conical connector of the Patient
connection port of the breathing System of an anaesthetic machine or
Ventilator. The designated size of each tracheal tube connector is required
to be not less than that of the tracheal tube with which it is designed to
fit, thereby avoiding unnecessary restriction of the gas flow and minimiz-
ing the risk of inadvertent disconnection.

L'ISO (organisation internationale de normalisation) est une fédération
mondiale d'organismes nationaux de normalisation (comités membres de
I'ISO). L'élaboration des Normes internationales est en général confiée
aux comités techniques de I'ISO. Chaque comité membre intéressé par
une étude a le droit de faire partie du comité technique créé à cet effet.
Les organisations internationales, gouvernementales et non gou-
vernementales, en liaison avec I'ISO participent également aux travaux.
L'ISO collabore étroitement avec la Commission électrotechnique inter-
nationale (CEI) en ce qui concerne la normalisation électrotechnique.
Les projets de Normes internationales adoptés par les comités techni-
ques sont soumis aux comités membres pour vote. Leur publication

La Norme internationale IS0 7228 a été élaborée par le comité technique
lSO/TC 121, Matériel d'anesthésie et de réanimation respiratoire, SOUS-
comité SC 2, Tubes trachéaux et autres équipements.
Cette troisième édition annule et remplace la deuxième édition (IS0
7228: 1985), et introduit des prescriptions révisées pour la surface radiale
interne des raccords. II n'y a plus de prescriptions relatives au raccord
conique femelle de 22 mm.
L'annexe A de la présente Norme internationale est donnée uniquement
à titre d'information.

Introduction
La présente Norme internationale s'inscrit dans une série de normes trai-
tant de la sécurité et des performances du matériel respiratoire et
d'anesthésie; elle a pour principal objet de prescrire les dimensions
essentielles des raccords de tubes trachéaux, sans limiter inutilement les
détails de conception.
Les raccords de tubes trachéaux doivent comporter des raccords coni-
ques mâles de 15 mm conformes à I'ISO 5356-1, pour s'adapter au rac-
cord conique coaxial de 22 mm mâle/l5 mm femelle de l'orifice de rac-
cordement côté ((maladen du système respiratoire d'un appareil d'anes-
thésie ou d'un ventilateur. La taille de chaque raccord de tube trachéal ne
doit pas être inférieure à celle du tube trachéal auquel il doit s'adapter,
pour éviter de restreindre inutilement le débit de gaz et minimiser le ris-
