Overview

ISO/TS 10303-1354:2006 is a STEP application module within the ISO 10303 family that defines standardized product data constructs for furniture and interior decoration. It specifies how to represent catalog product data, product structure, geometry and configuration details needed to exchange furniture catalog and interior-design information between systems. As a reusable module, it helps organizations achieve interoperable product data exchange and reduces the cost of remodelling common information structures.

Key topics and technical requirements

  • Catalog product data definition: standardized constructs for item identification, attributes and classification.
  • Product structure, variants and options: support for configurable products, variant management and options mapping.
  • Product dimensions and specifications: dimensional data and associated control for accurate specification and ordering.
  • Price lists and identification-based pricing: linking prices to product IDs and characteristic-driven pricing.
  • Multi-language support and approval status: localized product information and lifecycle/approval metadata.
  • Effectivity and document assignment: validity periods for data (effectivity), and linking documents to products.
  • Manufacturing configuration identification: identifying products by their manufacturing configuration for traceability.
  • Comprehensive product geometry: support for advanced boundary representation (B-rep), faceted B-rep, manifold surfaces with topology, geometrically bounded surfaces, wireframe 2D/3D (with topology), and constructive solid geometry (CSG).
  • Geometric validation and tolerancing: properties and tolerance definitions to assess conversion quality and ensure accurate geometry transfer.
  • Building and space elements for decoration projects: components such as walls, beams, columns, rooms and gangways, plus placement and location of building items in interior decoration contexts.

Applications

  • Exchange of furniture catalogs between manufacturers, retailers and e‑commerce platforms.
  • Integration of furniture data into interior design, CAD and BIM workflows.
  • Product configurators for customizable furniture and option management.
  • Geometry conversion and validation during CAD-to-CAD or CAD-to-BIM transfers.
  • Price management and multilingual product catalogs for international markets.
  • Document and approval workflows tied to product lifecycle and effectivity dates.

ISO 10303-236:2006(E) and Application modules

ISO 10303 (STEP) supports many different product information exchange and sharing scenarios which
contain common information requirements.
The STEP application modules contain reusable data models for key collections of product information within
ISO 10303, which can be combined to support information exchange for different business scenarios. By
reusing these models, users will save the cost of remodelling common information structures, and can be
assured of interoperable data exchange processes.
This CD-ROM contains
⎯ ISO 10303-236:2006 which specifies the use of the integrated resources necessary for the scope and
information requirements for furniture catalog and interior design;
⎯ 6 application modules in HTML format, forming part of the ISO 10303 (STEP) series of documents. Each
application module is published as a separate part: 436, 1351, 1352, 1353, 1354 and 1355.
The application modules will also be used in other STEP parts currently under development, and are available
for developers to use as core information models for product data.
