The IS0 Recommendation R 668. Dirnensious ntid raringx of /kig/ir c,oriraitirrr, was drawn up by Technical Committee
ISO/TC 104, Freight mrzfainers, the Secretariat of which i\ held by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
Work on this cluestion led to the adoption 01 Draft IS0 Recommendation No. 804, which wa\ circulated to all IS0 Member
Bodie\ lor enquiry in May 1965. It was approved by 20 Member Bodies. Five Mcrnber Bodie\ oppoyed the approval of the Draft
(Aultralia, 1:rarice. Ireland, Poland and the U.S.S.R. ).

to accept it as an IS0 RI~,COMMENDATION.
BRIEF HISTORY RELATING TO THE 2nd EDITION
The revision of IS0 Recommendation K 668-1968 was undertaken in 1969 and consists of minor modifications
and of the addition of a supplenientary container height in Table 3.
This revision was approved by the majority of the P-Menibers of iSO/TC 104, and, in an abbreviated procedure,
as Draft IS0 Recommendation No. 2183 was submitted direct to the IS0 Council, which decided to accept it as the
second edition of IS0 Recommendation R 668.
This edition cancels and supersedes the first edition of IS0 Recommendation R 668 -1968.

La Recommandation ISO/R 668, Dirnrnsions et triasses brutes maxiniales des conteneurs pour le transport de marchandises,
a été élaborfe par le Comité Technique ISOITC 104, C‘onteneurs pour le transport de marchandises, dont le Secrétüriat est assuré
par I’American Naticinal Staiidards Institute (ANSI).
Le\ travaux relatifs i cette question aboutirent i l’adoption du Projet de Recommandation IS0 NO 804 qui fut soumis, en
11121 1965, i I’cnquéte de tous les Comités Membre\ de 1’1SO. II fut approuvé par 20 Comités Membres. Cinq Comités Membres \e
d6clar6rcnt oppok l’approbation du Projet (Australie, France, Irlande, Pologne et Li.K.S.S.).
Le Projet de Kecoirimandation IS0 lut alors r~tiinis pai correspondance au <‘on\til de I’iSO. qui décida, en février 1968, de

la Recommandation ISO/R 668-1968 fut entreprise en 1969 et consiste en modifications
La révision de
mineures et en l’addition, au Tableau 3, d’une hauteur de conteneur supplémentaire.
Cette révision fut approuvée par la majorité des Membres P d’ISO/TC 104 et elle fut soumise, en tant
que Projet de Recommandation IS0 No 2183, selon la procédure accélérée, directement au Conseil de I’ISO,
qui décida de l’accepter comme deuxième édition de la Recommandation ISO/R 668.
La présente édition annule et remplace la première édition de la Recommandation ISO/R 668-1968.

1. DÉFINITIONS
On entend par conteneur un engin de transport
1.1
ayant un caractère permanent et étant, de ce fait, assez résistant pour permettre un usage répété;
a)
spécialement conçu pour faciliter le transport de marchandises, sans rupture de charge, par un ou

plusieurs moyens de transport;
muni de dispositifs le rendant facile à manipuler, notamment lors de son transbordement d’un moyen
c)
de transport à un autre;
conçu de façon à être facile à remplir et à vider;

ayant un volume intérieur d’au moins 1 m3 (35,3 ft3).
