ISO 11525-5:2015 - Overview
ISO 11525-5:2015 specifies user requirements for the interface between rough-terrain trucks and integrated personnel work platforms (integrated PWP). It applies to non-slewing and slewing variable-reach rough-terrain trucks and is intended to prevent personal injury, property damage and accidents by establishing criteria for inspection, maintenance, operation and operator training. National or local regulations may be more stringent and should be observed.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Scope and applicability
- Covers the truck ↔ integrated PWP interface only; it does not replace requirements for the truck or the platform themselves.
- General safety principles
- Emphasis on competent personnel, good management practices, and application-specific safety measures.
- Operator’s manual and documentation
- Operator manuals and any manufacturer safety bulletins must be available to operators and maintenance staff.
- Operator qualifications and training
- Only competent, authorized personnel may operate the interface.
- Training programs must cover interface approval, attachment/engagement, locking systems, and safe uncoupling procedures.
- Inspection and maintenance
- A planned schedule for inspection, lubrication and adjustment is required.
- Only competent personnel may maintain, repair or inspect the interface.
- Electrical cables and connections that are part of the interface must be checked for damage and correct connection to platform controls.
- Operating safety rules
- Visual inspections and functional tests before use.
- Interface must be approved by the truck manufacturer.
- Pre-attachment checks (manuals read, components in place), secure engagement and locking, and uncoupling rules (no occupants, platform on ground, adequate clearance).
Practical applications and users
- Intended users:
- Fleet managers, site safety officers, maintenance supervisors, equipment operators, and OEMs specifying attachments.
- Typical applications:
- Construction, utilities, agriculture and any field work where rough-terrain trucks are fitted with integrated personnel work platforms for elevating personnel and materials.
- Practical benefits:
- Reduces risk of accidents at the truck–platform interface, clarifies responsibilities for training and inspection, and supports compliance with relevant safety regimes.

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards
bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out
through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical
committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International
organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work.
ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of
electrotechnical standardization.
The procedures used to develop this document and those intended for its further maintenance are
described in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 1. In particular the different approval criteria needed for the
different types of ISO documents should be noted. This document was drafted in accordance with the
editorial rules of the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2 (see www.iso.org/directives).

Introduction
Rough-terrain trucks, when allowed, can be fitted with an integrated or non-integrated personnel work
platform (PWP) which is designed to elevate personnel and materials to elevated work heights. The
interface between the truck and the integrated PWP is an essential element to the safety of personnel
in the integrated PWP.
This part of ISO 11525 only deals with the interface between a rough-terrain truck and an integrated
personnel work platform (PWP), hereafter referred to as integrated PWP, which in this case is considered
as interchangeable equipment.
See ISO 18479-2 for user requirements for rough-terrain trucks fitted with a non-integrated personnel
work platform (PWP).
