Overview
ISO/TS 10303-1355:2006 is an application module in the ISO 10303 (STEP) family that defines models for parameterized catalog data and shape representation. It standardizes how cataloged products, their configurable variants, and associated shape information are represented for reliable product data exchange. As a STEP application module, 1355 provides reusable information structures that can be combined with other STEP resources to support interoperable product data workflows.
Key topics
- Catalog representation: data definitions for product catalogs, catalog product structure, and product classification.
- Modular and configurable products: representation of modular products, variants, options, and multi-configuration support.
- Parameterized properties: properties expressed as parameters and expressions, including relationships between variables and other property values.
- Shape dimensions and geometry: dimensions of shape elements, geometric tolerance, and surface condition descriptors.
- Commercial and lifecycle data: product price lists, effectivity (validity periods), and manufacturing configuration.
- Documentation and multilingual support: definition and assignment of documents to products and multi-language catalog support.
- Interoperability focus: reusable application module intended for combination with other ISO 10303 parts to reduce remodelling and enable consistent exchange.
Applications
ISO/TS 10303-1355:2006 is practical for organizations that need standardized, machine-readable catalogs and configurable product representations:
- CAD/PLM and PDM vendors integrating cataloged components and parametric geometry into product lifecycle workflows.
- Manufacturers creating modular or configurable products who require consistent rules for variants, options, and manufacturing configurations.
- ERP/PIM and e-commerce systems publishing multilingual price lists and structured catalog data for downstream systems.
- System integrators and data modelers combining STEP application modules to support industry-specific protocols (for example, furniture and interior design use cases referenced in ISO 10303-236).
- Suppliers and catalog publishers distributing parameterized product definitions that drive automated configuration and downstream manufacturing.
Related standards
- ISO 10303 (STEP) - the overall family for product data representation and exchange.
- ISO 10303-236 - application protocol for furniture catalog and interior design which reuses application modules (including 1355).
- Other ISO 10303 application modules that can be combined with 1355 for broader product data exchange solutions.

ISO 10303-236:2006(E) and Application modules
ISO 10303 (STEP) supports many different product information exchange and sharing scenarios which
contain common information requirements.
The STEP application modules contain reusable data models for key collections of product information within
ISO 10303, which can be combined to support information exchange for different business scenarios. By
reusing these models, users will save the cost of remodelling common information structures, and can be
assured of interoperable data exchange processes.
