Overview

IEC 61935-2-22:2021 is an international standard published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) that provides a blank detail specification for testing Category 6A information technology cords in accordance with the ISO/IEC 11801-1 standard. This specification is part of the broader IEC 61935 series, which focuses on the testing of balanced and coaxial communication cabling. It covers cords designed to support digital communications with transmission frequencies up to 500 MHz, ensuring compliance with Category 6A cable requirements for high-speed data networks.

The document serves as a template for preparing detailed specifications for cords meeting Category 6 performance criteria and facilitates consistent measurement and quality assessment across manufacturers, national organizations, and end users.

Key Topics

  • Scope: Specification for cords compliant with Category 6A cabling according to ISO/IEC 11801-1, covering transmission characteristics up to 500 MHz.
  • Test Configuration: Based on IEC 61935-2, detailing test arrangements applicable to Category 6A cords.
  • Blank Detail Specification Template: Defines the layout and style required for new detailed cord specifications, including sections for cord description, construction, electrical, mechanical, transmission, and environmental characteristics.
  • Normative References: Links to related IEC and ISO standards such as IEC 61156 series (symmetrical pair cables), IEC 60603-7 series (connectors), and IEC 61935-2 (testing procedures).
  • Preparation Guidance: Instructions ensure that detailed specifications maintain compliance with transmission requirements and characteristic impedance for Category 6A products.
  • MICE Environmental Classification: Addresses mechanical, ingress, climatic, and electromagnetic conditions that Category 6A cords could face in real-life installations.

Applications

IEC 61935-2-22:2021 is essential for organizations involved in the design, manufacture, testing, certification, and deployment of Category 6A cords used in:

  • Data Centers: Ensuring high-performance cabling that supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet and other digital communication protocols.
