Overview
IEC 61935-2:2022/AMD1:2026 is an International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) amendment that updates the requirements for testing balanced and coaxial information technology cabling, specifically focusing on cords as specified in ISO/IEC 11801-1 and associated standards. This amendment extends the scope of IEC 61935-2, addressing the testing of both traditional balanced twisted-pair cords and the increasingly prevalent balanced single-pair cords. The document also references crucial related standards for cord components, performance test procedures, and physical test requirements, ensuring comprehensive and up-to-date guidance for cable manufacturers, installers, and testing professionals.
Key Topics
- Expanded Scope: Now includes balanced single-pair cords, along with balanced twisted-pair and coaxial cords, reflecting developments in information technology cabling.
- Updated Test Procedures: Outlines new and modified test methods and transmission requirements for single-pair balanced cords, including test procedures based on IEC 61935-4 and detailed in the new Annex C.
- Component Standards: Specifies cord component requirements, linking to relevant standards such as IEC 61156 series for cables and IEC 63171 connectors.
- Transmission Parameters: Provides requirements and optional specifications for parameters including return loss, insertion loss, alien crosstalk, coupling attenuation, propagation delay, and DC resistance.
- Measurement Methods: Adds coupling attenuation test requirements in line with IEC 62153-4-7 and related electromagnetic compatibility standards.
- Conformity and Testing: Emphasizes conformity to ISO/IEC 11801-1 for design and performance, and outlines detailed acceptance testing methods for cabling assemblies.
Applications
This amendment is vital for stakeholders engaged in the design, manufacturing, installation, and testing of information technology cabling systems, ensuring consistent performance, interoperability, and compliance with international standards.
