Safety of household and similar electrical appliances - Part 2: Particular requirements for general purpose cleaning appliances
This clause of Part 1 is applicable except as follows: Replacement: This standard applies to general purpose cleaning appliances for household use, part of which is held in the hand during operation. These appliances are intended for cleaning surfaces such as windows, walls, ceilings, and empty swimming pools. Cleaning may be achieved by the use of brushes and the like in combination with cleansing liquids with or without chemical additives. Means may be provided for heating and for applying pressure to the cleansing liquids. This standard does not take into account the special hazards which exist in nurseries and other places where there are young children or aged or infirm persons without supervision; in such cases, additional requirements may be necessary. This standard does not apply to: - cleaning appliances which are permanently fixed to a building; - cleaning appliances operating with a pressure exceeding 2.5 MPa (25 bar) or with a liquid temperature exceeding 80 øC; - cleaning appliances for commercial or industrial use. For appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be necessary. For appliances intended to be used in tropical countries, special requirements may be necessary. Attention is drawn to the fact that in many countries additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities and the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour.
