Overview
EN 55032:2015/A11:2020 is an amendment to the European standard EN 55032:2015 covering the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) emission requirements for multimedia equipment. Prepared by CLC/TC 210 and approved by CENELEC on 2019-11-27, Amendment A11 was published in March 2020 and updates the normative framework to support harmonised conformity assessment and citation in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU).
This amendment clarifies the relationship between the standard and EU regulatory requirements (notably Directive 2014/30/EU) by replacing Annex ZZ. It provides manufacturers, test laboratories and conformity assessors with guidance on how compliance with EN 55032 clauses can provide a presumption of conformity with essential requirements of the EMC Directive within the standard's scope.
Key Topics
- Scope and purpose: Emission requirements for multimedia and teleconferencing equipment to limit electromagnetic disturbance.
- Amendment A11: Introduces a revised Annex ZZ to document the standard’s coverage of essential requirements of Directive 2014/30/EU and to facilitate citation in the OJEU.
- Regulatory linkage: Explains how compliance with normative clauses maps to Essential Requirements in Directive 2014/30/EU and associated EFTA regulations.
- Implementation dates: The amendment sets dates for national implementation and withdrawal of conflicting national standards as specified in the foreword.
- Referenced guidance: Where applicable, measurement uncertainty guidance and applicability to series production are discussed; CISPR TR 16-4-3 is cited for production applicability guidance.
Applications
This amendment is directly useful for:
- Manufacturers designing multimedia devices who need to demonstrate EMC emission compliance for CE marking and EU market access.
- Test laboratories performing emissions testing to current European normative references.
- Regulatory and compliance teams aligning technical documentation and declarations of conformity with Directive 2014/30/EU.
- Product managers and engineers needing a harmonised standard to reduce market entry risk across CENELEC member countries.
Benefits include clearer mapping to EU essential requirements, improved legal certainty when the standard is cited in the OJEU, and harmonised testing expectations for manufacturers across Europe.
Related Standards
- EN 55032:2015 (base standard amended by A11)
- CISPR TR 16-4-3 (referenced for guidance on measurement uncertainty and series production applicability)
- Directive 2014/30/EU (electromagnetic compatibility directive; Annex ZZ maps essential requirements)
For organisations involved in multimedia equipment design, testing or regulatory compliance, EN 55032:2015/A11:2020 is a primary normative reference to support EMC emission conformity and streamline access to the EU market.
