Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) - Part 6-1: Generic standards - Immunity standard for residential, commercial and light-industrial environments
Applies to electrical and electronic apparatus intended for use in residential, commercial and light-industrial environments. Immunity requirements in the frequency range 0 Hz to 400 GHz are covered. No tests need to be performed at frequencies where no requirements are specified. This generic EMC immunity standard is applicable if no relevant dedicated product or product-family EMC immunity standard exists. This standard applies to apparatus intended to be directly connected to a low-voltage public mains network or connected to a dedicated DC source which is intended to interface between the apparatus and the low-voltage public mains network. This standard applies also to apparatus which is battery operated or is powered by a non-public, but non-industrial, low-voltage power distribution system if this apparatus is intended to be used in the locations described below. The environments encompassed by this standard are residential, commercial and light-industrial locations, both indoor and outdoor. The following list, although not comprehensive, gives an indication of locations which are included: - residential properties, for example houses, apartments; - retail outlets, for example shops, supermarkets; - business premises, for example offices, banks; - areas of public entertainment, for example cinemas, public bars, dance halls; - outdoor locations, for example petrol stations, car parks, amusement and sports centres; - light-industrial locations, for example workshops, laboratories, service centres. Locations which are characterised by being supplied directly at low voltage from the public mains network are considered to be residential, commercial or light-industrial. The immunity requirements have been selected to ensure an adequate level of immunity for apparatus at residential, commercial and light-industrial locations. The levels do not, however, cover extreme cases, which may occur at any location, but with an extremely low probability of occurrenc

Elektromagnetna združljivost (EMC) - 6-1. del: Osnovni standardi - Odpornost v stanovanjskih, poslovnih in manj zahtevnih industrijskih okoljih
General Information

Overview
EN IEC 61000-6-1:2019 is the generic EMC immunity standard for electrical and electronic apparatus used in residential, commercial and light‑industrial environments. It defines immunity requirements across the frequency range 0 Hz to 400 GHz and applies where no dedicated product‑family EMC immunity standard exists. The standard covers equipment connected to low‑voltage public mains, dedicated DC sources that interface with the mains, battery‑operated devices and units powered from non‑public low‑voltage distribution when intended for the listed environments.
Key topics and requirements
- Environment scope: Indoor and outdoor residential (houses, apartments), commercial (shops, offices, banks, entertainment venues), light‑industrial (workshops, laboratories, service centres), petrol stations, car parks and similar locations.
- Frequency range: Immunity requirements specified from 0 Hz up to 400 GHz; no tests are required where the standard specifies no requirement.
- Ports and test categories: Immunity requirements are organized by equipment ports - enclosure, signal/control, DC power and AC power - with dedicated tables for test applicability and levels.
- Performance criteria and test conditions: The standard specifies performance criteria for acceptable behavior during and after disturbance, and defines conditions to be observed during testing (e.g., test setup and measurement uncertainty).
- Referenced EMC tests: Normative references include established IEC 61000‑4 series test methods such as:
- IEC 61000‑4‑2 (Electrostatic discharge)
- IEC 61000‑4‑3 (Radiated RF immunity)
- IEC 61000‑4‑4 (Electrical fast transients / burst)
- IEC 61000‑4‑5 (Surge)
- IEC 61000‑4‑6 (Conducted RF disturbances)
- IEC 61000‑4‑8 and IEC 61000‑4‑11 (magnetic fields, voltage dips/interruptions)
- Additional content: Addresses measurement uncertainty, product documentation requirements and provides guidance (Annex A) for product committees when considering product‑specific immunity needs.
Practical applications - who uses this standard
- Manufacturers and product designers use EN IEC 61000‑6‑1 to design robust products for residential, commercial and light‑industrial markets and to set EMC design targets where no product‑family standard exists.
- EMC test laboratories follow its test applicability and referenced IEC 61000‑4 methods to validate immunity performance.
- Compliance and QA engineers use the standard to determine required immunity testing, interpret performance criteria and document conformance.
- Standards and product committees use Annex A and the standard’s structure to decide if additional or stricter immunity requirements are needed for particular product families.
Related standards
- EN/IEC 61000‑4‑2, ‑4‑3, ‑4‑4, ‑4‑5, ‑4‑6, ‑4‑8, ‑4‑11 and other IEC 61000‑4 series test methods are normative references and should be used together with EN IEC 61000‑6‑1 for complete EMC immunity testing and compliance.

ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY (EMC) –
Part 6-1: Generic standards –
Immunity standard for residential,
commercial and light-industrial environments
1 Scope
This part of IEC 61000 for EMC immunity requirements applies to electrical and electronic
equipment intended for use in residential, commercial, public and light-industrial locations.
Immunity requirements in the frequency range 0 Hz to 400 GHz are covered. No tests need to
be performed at frequencies where no requirements are specified.
This generic EMC immunity standard is applicable if no relevant dedicated product or product-
family EMC immunity standard exists.
This standard applies to electrical and electronic equipment intended to be operated in
• residential locations, as defined in 3.8, both indoor and outdoor,
• commercial, public and light industrial locations, as defined in 3.9, both indoor and
outdoor.
This standard applies also to equipment which is battery operated or is powered by a non-
public, but non-industrial, low voltage power distribution system if this equipment is intended
to be used in the locations defined in 3.8 or 3.9.
This standard defines the immunity test requirements for equipment specified in the scope in
relation to continuous and transient, conducted and radiated disturbances, including
electrostatic discharges.
The immunity requirements have been selected to ensure an adequate level of immunity for
equipment operating within residential, commercial, public and light-industrial locations. The
levels do not, however, cover extreme cases, which may occur at any location, but with an
extremely low probability of occurrence. Not all disturbance phenomena have been included
for testing purposes in this standard, but only those considered as relevant for the equipment
covered by this standard. These test requirements represent essential electromagnetic
compatibility immunity requirements. They are specified for each port considered.
NOTE 1 Information on other disturbance phenomena is given in IEC TR 61000-4-1.
NOTE 2 Safety considerations are not covered by this standard.
NOTE 3 In special cases, situations will arise where the levels of disturbances may exceed the test levels
specified in this standard, for example where a hand-held transmitter is used in proximity to equipment. In these
instances, special mitigation measures may have to be employed.

energy transfer, whereas the other ports provide for conducted energy transfer, either by direct injection or by
induction.

MEDNARODNA ELEKTROTEHNIŠKA KOMISIJA
ELEKTROMAGNETNA ZDRUŽLJIVOST (EMC) –
6-1. del: Osnovni standardi –
Odpornost v stanovanjskih,
poslovnih in manj zahtevnih industrijskih okoljih
PREDGOVOR
sodelovanje v vseh vprašanjih standardizacije s področja elektrotehnike in elektronike. V ta namen poleg
drugih aktivnosti izdaja mednarodne standarde, tehnične specifikacije, tehnična poročila, javno dostopne
specifikacije (PAS) in vodila (v nadaljevanju: publikacije IEC).
z IEC.
nacionalnih in regionalnih publikacijah čim pregledneje uporabljali publikacije IEC.
oznak skladnosti IEC zagotavljajo neodvisni certifikacijski organi.
Ta tretja izdaja razveljavlja in nadomešča drugo izdajo, izdano leta 2005. Ta izdaja pomeni tehnično
revizijo.
Ta izdaja vključuje naslednje pomembne tehnične spremembe glede na prejšnjo izdajo:
