Light and lighting - Lighting of work places - Part 2: Outdoor work places
This document specifies lighting requirements for humans in outdoor work places, which meet the needs for visual comfort and performance of people having normal, or corrected to normal ophthalmic (visual) capacity. Usual visual tasks and the avoidance of obtrusive light are considered.
This document specifies requirements for lighting solutions for most outdoor work places and their associated areas in terms of quantity and quality of illumination. In addition, recommendations are given for good lighting practice. This document does not specify lighting requirements with respect to the safety and health of people at work and has not been prepared in the field of application of Article 153 of Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union although the lighting requirements, as specified in this document, usually fulfil safety needs.
NOTE Lighting requirements with respect to the safety and health of workers at work can be contained in Directives based on Article 153 of Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, in national legislation of member states implementing these directives or in other national legislation of member states.
This document neither provides specific solutions, nor restricts the designers' freedom from exploring new techniques nor restricts the use of innovative equipment. The illumination can be provided by daylight, electric lighting or a combination of both.
This document is not applicable for the lighting of indoor work places and underground mining or emergency lighting. For indoor work places, see EN 12464-1 and for emergency lighting, see EN 1838 and EN 13032-3.
Licht und Beleuchtung - Beleuchtung von Arbeitsstätten - Teil 2: Arbeitsplätze im Freien
Dieses Dokument legt die Beleuchtungsanforderungen für Arbeitsstätten/Arbeitsplätze im Freien fest, die den menschlichen Bedürfnissen in Hinblick auf Sehkomfort und Sehleistung entsprechen, wenn die Beschäftigten über ein übliches oder entsprechend korrigiertes ophthalmologisches Leistungsvermögen (Sehvermögen) verfügen. Gewöhnliche Sehaufgaben und die Vermeidung von Störlicht werden berücksichtigt.
Dieses Dokument legt Anforderungen an Beleuchtungslösungen in Hinblick auf die Quantität und Qualität der Beleuchtung fest, die für die meisten Arbeitsstätten/Arbeitsplätze im Freien und deren zugeordnete Bereiche gelten. Zudem werden Empfehlungen für eine gute Beleuchtungspraktik gegeben. Dieses Dokument legt keine Anforderungen an die Beleuchtung von Arbeitsstätten im Hinblick auf den betrieblichen Arbeits- und Gesundheitsschutz der Beschäftigten fest und wurde nicht im Anwendungsbereich von Artikel 153 des Vertrags über die Arbeitsweise der Europäischen Union erarbeitet, obwohl die in diesem Dokument angegebenen lichttechnischen Anforderungen üblicherweise auch den Erfordernissen des Arbeitsschutzes gerecht werden.
ANMERKUNG Anforderungen an die Beleuchtung von Arbeitsstätten im Hinblick auf den betrieblichen Arbeits- und Gesundheitsschutz können in nach Artikel 153 des Vertrags über die Arbeitsweise der Europäischen Union erlassenen Richtlinien, in der nationalen Gesetzgebung der Mitgliedstaaten in Umsetzung dieser Richtlinien oder in anderen nationalen gesetzlichen Regelungen der Mitgliedstaaten enthalten sein.
Dieses Dokument legt weder spezifische Lösungen fest, noch schränkt es die Freiheit der Planer ein, neue Techniken zu erkunden oder innovative Techniken einzusetzen. Die Beleuchtung kann durch Tageslicht, elektrische Beleuchtung oder eine Kombination aus beidem erreicht werden.
Dieses Dokument gilt nicht für die Beleuchtung von Arbeitsplätzen in Innenräumen und im Untertage-Bergbau oder für die Notbeleuchtung. Für Arbeitsplätze in Innenräumen siehe EN 12464 1 und für Notbeleuchtung: siehe EN 1838 und EN 13032 3.

Le présent document spécifie les exigences d’éclairage vis-à-vis des personnes présentes sur des lieux de travail extérieurs, destinées à satisfaire aux besoins de confort visuel et de performance visuelle des personnes dont la capacité ophtalmique (visuelle) est normale ou corrigée à la normale. Les tâches visuelles courantes et l’évitement de la lumière indésirable sont pris en compte.
Le présent document spécifie les exigences concernant la quantité et la qualité de l’éclairage des solutions d’éclairage pour la plupart des lieux de travail extérieurs et leurs zones associées. Des recommandations sont également données concernant les bonnes pratiques en matière d’éclairage. Bien que les exigences en matière d’éclairage spécifiées dans le présent document satisfassent de manière générale aux exigences de sécurité, le présent document ne comporte pas d’exigences relatives à l’éclairage en rapport avec la santé et la sécurité des personnes au travail et n’entre pas dans le domaine d’application de l’Article 153 du Traité sur le fonctionnement de l’Union européenne.
NOTE Les exigences en matière d’éclairage relatives à la sécurité et à la santé des travailleurs peuvent être contenues dans des Directives fondées sur l’Article 153 du Traité sur le fonctionnement de l’Union européenne, dans des législations nationales mettant en oeuvre ces directives ou dans d’autres dispositions réglementaires nationales des États membres.

European foreword
This document (prEN 12464-2:2023) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 169 “Light and
lighting”, the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This document is currently submitted to the CEN Enquiry.
This document will supersede EN 12464-2:2014.
The original standard EN 12464-2:2007 was already further developed in its first revision EN 12464-2:2014.
It specifies the requirements for good lighting solutions rather than giving design guidelines. With the
experience of applying the standard, next steps are taken in the development of this new edition and human
and user needs are given broader acknowledgement. Technologically LED has taken over as the main light
source from previous technologies. The revision of the standard is aligned to the parallel standard for indoor
workplaces EN 12464-1:2021.
EN 12464-2:2023 includes the following significant technical changes with respect to EN 12464-2:2014:
— A new Clause 4 is introduced to summarize “Symbols and abbreviations”.
— The recommendations given in the tables in Clause 6 are slightly revised, new applications are added were
appropriate
