Small medical gas cylinders - Pin-index yoke-type valve connections (ISO 407:2004)

ISO 407:2004 concerns pin-index yoke-type valve connections for small medical gas cylinders, with a maximum working pressure (filling pressure at 15 °C) of 200 bar. This type of connection is typically used for small cylinders (5 l or below). In some cases, it may be used for larger cylinders. In this latter case, consideration shall be given to the need for valve protection.
It specifies:
basic dimensions;
requirements for alternative designs of the yoke-type valve connections;
dimensions and positions for the holes and pins for the outlet connections.
It also specifies the dimensions and positions for the holes and pins for the outlet connections for certain gases and gas mixtures.
ISO 407:2004 applies to small medical gas cylinders used for patient care, including therapeutic, diagnostic and prophylactic applications, in hospitals and for emergency treatment.

Kleine Gasflaschen für die medizinische Anwendung - Ventilseitenstutzen mit Anschlussbügel nach dem Pin-Index-System (ISO 407:2004)

Diese Internationale Norm gilt für Bügelverschlüsse nach dem Pin-Index System für Gasflaschen für die medizinische Anwendung, mit einem maximalen Arbeitsdruck bei 15 °C von 250 bar.
Sie legt:
¾ Grundmaße;
¾ Anforderungen für alternative Konstruktionen von Bügelventilverschlüssen;
¾ Maße und Anordnungen der Passlöcher und -stifte für die Anschlussverbindungen
fest.
Sie legt auch die Maße und Anordnungen der Passlöcher und -stifte für die Anschlussverbindungen der in Ta-
belle 1 enthaltenen Gase und Gasgemische fest.
Diese Verschlüsse gelten für den medizinischen Gebrauch von kleinen Gasflaschen für die Krankenpflege, einschließlich therapeutischer, diagnostischer und prophylaktischer Anwendung, in Krankenhäusern und für Notfälle.

L'ISO 407:2004 traite des raccords de robinets du type à étrier avec ergots de sécurité, destinés aux petites bouteilles à gaz médicaux ayant une pression maximale de travail (pression de remplissage à 15 °C) de 200 bar. Ce type de raccord est essentiellement utilisé pour les petites bouteilles (de 5 l ou moins). Parfois, il peut être utilisé pour des bouteilles plus grandes. Dans ce cas, l'attention doit être portée sur la nécessité d'une protection du robinet.
Elle spécifie
les dimensions de base des raccords,
les exigences requises des variantes de construction des raccords de robinets du type à étrier, et
les dimensions et positions des trous et des ergots des sorties de raccords.

This document (EN ISO 407:2004) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 58 "Gas
cylinders" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 23 "Transportable gas cylinders",
the secretariat of which is held by BSI.

This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of
an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by May 2005, and conflicting national standards
shall be withdrawn at the latest by May 2005.

This document supersedes EN 850:1996.

According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the

Valve protection caps and valve guards are some of the options available to protect cylinder valves, including valves with integral pressure regulators (VIPRs) during transport.
This document is applicable to valve protection caps and valve guards which inherently provide the primary protection of a cylinder valve. It can also be used to test other equipment (e.g., handling devices) attached to cylinder packages, even in cases where the cylinder valve is inherently able to withstand damage without release of the content.
This document excludes protection devices for cylinders with a water capacity of 5 l or less and cylinders whereby the protection device is fixed by means of lugs welded or brazed to the cylinder, or is welded or brazed directly to the cylinder. This document does not cover valve protection for breathing apparatus cylinders.
NOTE    Small cylinders (e.g., medical cylinders) are commonly transported in an outer-packaging (e.g., pallet) to meet transport regulations.
This document does not specify requirements that could be necessary to enable the valve protection device to be used for lifting the cylinder.

NOTE 3     If a clause or subclause is specifically intended to be applicable to ME equipment only, or to ME systems only, the title and content of that clause or subclause will say so. If that is not the case, the clause or subclause applies both to ME equipment and to ME systems, as relevant.
