This part of ISO 14680 specifies a test  method for determining the pigment content  of paints in which the product under test is  ashed. The method is not applicable to  coating materials containing organic  pigments and/or dyestuffs and inorganic  pigments treated with organic compounds.  These treatment compounds, which could  be about 10 % of the pigment, will be lost  during ashing. Since the mass of many  pigments and extenders changes under the  specified test conditions, it will depend on  the composition and the chosen ashing  temperature whether the actual pigment  content of the product under test can be  deduced from the pigment content found by  this method. The pigment content of coating  materials can also be determined by a  centrifuge method (see EN ISO 14680- 1) or by a filtration method (see EN ISO  14680-3).

L'ISO 14680-2:2000 fait partie d'une série de normes traitant de l'échantillonnage et des essais des peintures, vernis et produits assimilés.
Elle spécifie une méthode pour déterminer la teneur en pigments des peintures, dans laquelle le produit soumis à essai est calciné. La méthode n'est pas applicable aux matériaux de revêtement contenant de l'aluminium, des pigments organiques et/ou des colorants ou pigments inorganiques traités avec des composés organiques. De tels composants, qui peuvent représenter environ dix pour cent de la composition du pigment, seront détruits lors de la calcination.

The text of ISO 14680-2:2000 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 35 "Paints
and varnishes” of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has been taken
over as EN ISO 14680-2:2006 by Technical Committee CEN/TC 139 "Paints and varnishes", the
secretariat of which is held by DIN.

This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of
an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by August 2006, and conflicting national
standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by August 2006.

According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of
