Overview
EN ISO 15876-3:2017/A1:2020 is a critical European standard that governs plastics piping systems used for hot and cold water installations, specifically focusing on polybutene (PB) fittings. This amendment, approved by CEN in December 2020, updates the existing EN ISO 15876-3:2017 standard to integrate technical improvements and align with the latest industry practices. The standard is developed through collaboration between ISO Technical Committee ISO/TC 138 and CEN Technical Committee CEN/TC 155, ensuring compliance and harmonization across European national standards.
Key Topics
Scope and Application
The standard applies to polybutene (PB) fittings designed for use in hot and cold water piping systems, ensuring safety, durability, and compatibility in various plumbing installations.Updated References
The amendment revises normative references from ISO 15876-1:2016 to ISO 15876-1:2017, reflecting the most current requirements and technical specifications for polybutene piping systems.Technical Modifications
Modifications include adjustments in fitting sizes and dimensions, with new rows added in Table 5 for larger diameters such as 180 mm, 200 mm, 225 mm, and 250 mm, expanding the applicability to broader piping systems.Compliance and Implementation
Member states of CEN are mandated to implement this amended standard by June 2021, ensuring uniform adoption across the European market and withdrawal of conflicting national standards.
Applications
Residential and Commercial Plumbing
The standard is essential for manufacturers and engineers designing and installing polybutene piping systems in residential and commercial buildings, supporting reliable hot and cold water supply.Water Supply Systems
It provides guidelines for fittings used in potable water distribution systems, ensuring the materials meet hygienic and safety standards suitable for water supply.Industrial Fluid Transport
Industries utilizing polybutene piping for fluid conveyance benefit from the standardized dimensions and performance criteria, which enhance system integrity and compatibility.Infrastructure Projects
Municipal and large-scale infrastructure projects involving water installations can rely on this standard for consistent quality and interchangeability of fittings.
