tiefkalte Gase;
Flüssiggas (LPG);
Getränke und andere flüssige Lebensmittel, die mit Kohlendioxid oder einem anderen Gas oder vorher vermengten Gasgemisch unter Druck gesetzt worden sind;
Aerosole, die mit einem Gas oder einem vorher vermengten Gasgemisch, das als Treibmittel verwendet wird, unter Druck gesetzt werden;
¾ les gaz cryogéniques ;
¾ les GPL ;
¾ les boissons et autres aliments liquides, mis sous pression avec du dioxyde de carbone ou avec d'autres gaz ou mélanges de gaz préalablement mélangés ;
¾ les aérosols mis sous pression avec un gaz ou un mélange de gaz préalablement mélangés, utilisés comme gaz propulseurs ;

Overview - EN 13099:2003 (CEN)
EN 13099:2003 is a European Standard published by CEN that specifies general requirements for filling transportable gas cylinders with gas mixtures. It covers filling of individual receptacles, manifolded gas cylinders (bundles), tubes and drums with blended gases and provides informative annexes containing gas mixing data for commonly used components and further guidance notes. The standard explicitly excludes filling requirements for cryogenic gases, LPG, beverages and foodstuffs pressurized with gas, aerosol propellants, and single-component liquefiable gases or liquids pressurized for safety or product withdrawal.
Key topics and requirements
- Scope of application: Defines which receptacles and gas mixtures are covered (transportable cylinders, bundles, tubes, drums) and clearly lists exclusions such as cryogenic gases and LPG.
- General filling requirements: Establishes procedural and safety-related expectations for preparing and charging receptacles with gas mixtures (e.g., verification, documentation, cleanliness and compatibility considerations).
- Manifolded systems: Addresses special considerations when filling manifolded gas cylinders (bundles) to ensure correct distribution and mixture integrity across interconnected cylinders.
- Gas mixing data and guidance: Provides informative annexes with mixing data for common gas components and practical guidance to help implement safe, consistent filling practices.
- Safety and quality controls: Emphasizes the need for appropriate checks, labeling, traceability and handling procedures to maintain product quality and user safety.
- Exclusions and limits: Lists specific classes of gases and uses that are outside the standard’s remit, guiding users to seek alternative standards or regulations for those cases.
Applications - who uses EN 13099:2003
- Industrial gas suppliers and filling stations - to standardize safe filling operations for gas mixtures.
- Cylinder and bundle manufacturers - to align product design and filling compatibility with European filling practices.
- Laboratories and calibration gas producers - for controlled preparation of blended calibration gases.
- Safety managers and quality assurance teams - to develop SOPs, inspection regimes and traceability for filled receptacles.
- Regulators and compliance officers - to reference accepted practices when assessing filling operations or creating local rules.
Related standards and compliance
- EN 13099 complements other pressure-vessel and gas-cylinder safety standards and national transport or occupational safety regulations. Users should consult applicable local regulations and any specific standards for excluded categories (e.g., cryogenic or liquefied gases) when filling those products.
EN 13099:2003 is a practical resource for ensuring consistent, safe, and traceable filling of non-cryogenic gas mixtures into transportable receptacles.
