Diese Europäische Norm legt Anforderungen für die Medienzugriffskontroll-/Bitübertragungsschicht (MAC/PHY) und die Vermittlungsschicht eines Kommunikationsprotokolls für den Datenaustausch zwischen Zählern und anderen Geräten in einem Mesh-Netzwerk fest. Diese Norm verweist auf eine Reihe von Dokumenten, in denen Kernanforderungen festgelegt sind. Diese Verweisung steht in Übereinstimmung mit dem Bridge Consortium sowie der Absichtserklärung zwischen der ZigBee Alliance und CEN/CENELEC.

La présente norme fait référence à un certain nombre de documents dans lesquels sont spécifiées les exigences essentielles. La référence à ces documents est conforme à la procédure « lien avec les consortiums » (Consortium Bridge) ainsi qu'au protocole d'accord entre l'alliance ZigBee et le CEN/CENELEC.
