This European Standard specifies equipment and procedures for determining the long term water absorption of test specimens by diffusion. It is applicable to thermal insulating products. It is intended to simulate the water absorption of products subjected to high relative humidities, approximating to 100%, on both sides and subjected to a water vapour pressure gradient for a long period of time e.g. inverted roof or unprotected ground insulation.

Diese Norm legt Prüfeinrichtungen und Verfahren zur Bestimmung der langzeitigen Wasseraufnahme von Probekörpern durch Diffusion fest. Sie gilt für Wärmedämmstoffe. Das Prüfverfahren simuliert die Wasseraufnahme von Produkten, die auf beiden Seiten einer hohen relativen Luftfeuchte bis 100 % sowie über eine lange Zeit einem Wasserdampfteildruckdifferenz ausgesetzt werden, wie z.B. im "Umkehrdach" oder bei der ungeschützten Wärmedämmung zum Erdreich.

Cette norme spécifie l'équipement et les modes opératoires permettant de déterminer l'absorption d'eau des éprouvettes par diffusion. Elle s'applique aux produits isolants thermiques. Cette méthode a pour but de simuler l'absorption d'eau de produits soumis à des taux d'humidité élevés, proches de 100 % sur chacune des faces ainsi qu'à un gradient de pression de vapeur d'eau pendant une longue durée par exemple pour la toiture inversée ou l'isolation au contact de la terre. Cette méthode d'essai n'est pas recommandée pour tous les produits isolants thermiques.
