La présente norme spécifie, en vue de leur transport, les exigences de conception, de construction et de marquage des conteneurs pour marchandises et service, ayant une masse brute maximale inférieure à 25000kg, conçus pour un usage répété en mer et assurant la liaison entre les installations en mer et les bateaux. Elle définit un système de plaques à apposer sur les conteneurs en fonction d'un plan défini de contrôles périodiques et d'essais et introduit l'obligation d'une inspection des conteneurs avant le transport.
