Foreword ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national Standards institutes (ISO member bodies). The work of developing Interna- tional Standards is carried out through ISO technical committees. Every member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been set up has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non- governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for approval before their acceptance as International Standards by the ISO Council. International Standard ISO 3923/1 was developed by Technical Committee ISO/TC 119, Powder metallurgy. This second edition was submitted directly to the ISO Council, in accordance with clause 510.1 of the Directives for the technical work of ISO. lt cancels and replaces the first edition (i.e. ISO 3923-19771, which had been approved by the member bodies of the following countries : Australia Germany, F. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ISO 3923/1-1979 (E) Metallic powders - Determination of apparent density - Part 1 : Funnel method 1 Scope and field of application This part of ISO 3923 specifies the funnel method for the deter- mination of the apparent density of metallic powders under standardized conditions. The method is intended for metallic powders that flow freely through a 2,5 mm diameter orifice. lt may, however, be used for powders that flow with difficulty through a 2,5 mm diameter orifice but flow freely through a 5 mm diameter orifice. Methods for the determination of the apparent density of powders that will not flow through a 5 mm diameter orifice are specified in Parts 2 and 3 of this International Standard. 2 References ISO 392312, Metallic powders - Determination of apparent density - Part 2 : Sto tt volumeter method. 1) ISO 392313, Metallic powders - Determination of apparent density - Part 3 : Oscilla ting funnel method. 1) 3 Principle Measurement of the mass of a certain
