This European Prestandard establishes principles for describing spatial schemas which can be part of application schemas. These schemas can be used for defining, structuring, querying, updating, encoding, transforming and transferring geographic data. The spatial schemas specify the constructs for the representation of geometry and topology of geographic objects. The constructs are defined in spatial schemas according to requirements from the applications.

La présente prénorme européenne donne les principes permettant de décrire les schémas spatiaux qui font partie des schémas d'application. Ces schémas peuvent être utilisés pour décrire, structurer, interroger, mettre à jour, coder, transformer et transférer des données géographiques. Le schéma spatial définit les règles de construction pour la représentation de la géométrie et la topologie des objets géographiques. Les règles de construction sont définies dans le schéma spatial d'après les exigences des différentes applications.
