   nahtlos stranggepresste (nahtloses Strangpressverfahren) und danach gezogene Rohre (EN 754-7);

jusqu’aux dimensions finales requises ;
- aux tubes filés sans soudure (sur aiguille) et étirés (EN 754-7) ;

Overview

EN 13958:2008 - Aluminium and aluminium alloys - Cold drawn, round, coiled tube for general applications is a CEN European Standard that specifies tolerances on dimensions and form for round aluminium tubes extruded by the porthole/bridge method, cold drawn to final size and supplied in coil form or as straight lengths cut from coil. It covers tubes with an outside diameter (OD) > 2 mm up to and including 50 mm, primarily for general engineering use in the 1xxx and 3xxx aluminium alloy series. The standard clarifies which products are in scope and explicitly excludes seamless mandrel-extruded tubes (EN 754-7) and straight-extruded drawn tubes (EN 754-8).

Key topics and technical requirements

  • Scope & product type: Porthole/bridge extruded, cold drawn round tubes supplied in coils or cut straight lengths. Applies mainly to standard 1xxx and 3xxx alloys; use for other alloys requires agreement.
  • Dimensional tolerances: Limits for OD/ID, mean diameter, and ovality; examples and maximum allowable deviations are provided for ODs up to 50 mm.
  • Wall thickness & eccentricity: Definitions for mean wall thickness and wall thickness variation (eccentricity); methods and tolerances for measuring eccentricity are explained (see Annex A).
  • Form tolerances: Requirements for straightness, squareness of cut ends, and cut-end quality.
  • Surface quality: Defines “normal quality” and provisions for stricter inspection (e.g., eddy current, leak testing), lubrication, and handling to prevent fretting or surface damage.
  • Coil characteristics: Specification of coil inner/outer diameters, width/height, weight limits, drum/bobbin dimensions, and winding type (random or level winding).
  • Ordering information: Buyers must supply product form, reference to related standards (EN 573-3 for chemistry, EN 515 for temper, EN 754-2 for mechanical properties), and only two of OD/ID/wall thickness when ordering.
  • Quality control & testing: Supplier responsibility for inspections and tests per the standard or specific order agreements.

Applications and users

  • Intended for manufacturers, procurers, quality engineers, and design engineers in the engineering and manufacturing sectors who require consistent dimensional and form tolerances for cold drawn aluminium tube supplied in coils.
  • Practical uses include any general engineering application needing reliable OD/ID control, predictable wall thickness, and form tolerance for downstream processes (decoiling, straightening, cutting).
