This European Prestandard establishes general principles for describing the quality of geographic information and provides a schema for describing data quality. This European Prestandard specifies information appropriate for the judging of quality of geographic information. This includes details of the derivation and usage of particular sets of geographic information and the results of measures of quality either against a pre-established scale or relative to similar information.

Diese Europäische Norm stellt allgemeine Grundsätze für die Beschreibung der Qualität von Geoinformationen auf. Diese Europäische Norm befaßt sich damit, wie die Informationen dazustellen sind, die die Beurteilung der Qualität von Geoninformationen erlauben, die von einem System oder einer Organisation zu einem (einer) anderen übertragen werden sollen. Sie enthält Einzelheiten darüber, wie einzelne Geodatensätze erzeugt worden sind und benutzt werden, sowie die Ergebnisse von Messungen der Qualität entweder im Vergleich zu einem a priori festgelegten Maßstab oder bezogen auf ähnliche Informationen.
