This European Standard specifies a method for comparing the heat transmission through materials or material assemblies used in protective clothing. Materials are ranked by calculation of a Heat Transfer Index, which is an indication of the relative protection under the specified test conditions. The Heat Transfer Index should not be taken as a measure of the protection time given by the tested materials under actual use conditions.

Diese europäische Norm legt ein Verfahren zum Vergleich des Wärmedurchganges durch Materialien oder Materialschichten fest, die in Schutzkleidungen verwendet werden. Die Materialien werden durch die Berechnung eines Wärmetransfer-Indexes klassifiziert, der ein Indikator des relativen Schutzes unter den festgelegten Prüfbedingungen ist. Der Wärmetransfer-Index sollte nicht als ein Mass der Schutzzeit angesehen werden, die bei den geprüften Materialien unter tatsächlichen Einsatzbedingungen erreicht wird.

Cette norme européenne définie une méthode de comparaison de la transmission de chaleur à travers les matériaux ou assemblages de matériaux utilisés dans les vêtements de protection. Les matériaux sont hiérarchisés par le calcul d'un indice de Transmission de Chaleur, qui est une indication de la protection relative dans les conditions d'essai spécifiées. L'Indice de Transmission de Chaleur ne doit pas être pris comme une mesure du temps de protection procuré par le matériau exsaminé dans des conditions réelles d'utilisation.
