Wood flooring - Sampling procedures for evaluation of conformity
This European Standard defines the sampling procedures to be used for the evaluation of conformity in product standards for a batch of wood flooring elements at the time of first delivery of the product.
It applies separately to each of the following characteristics: moisture content, dimensions and appearance.
For the other characteristics, an evaluation procedure has to be defined case by case.
This European Standard applies to EN 13226, EN 13227, EN 13228, EN 13488, EN 13629 and EN 14761.
For EN 13489, only moisture and dimensions are concerned.
This European Standard does not apply to EN 13990.

Overview
EN 14762:2006 - published by CEN - specifies sampling procedures for the evaluation of conformity of wood flooring batches at first delivery. The standard defines how to take and assess samples for three key characteristics: moisture content, dimensions, and appearance. It sets forth a lot-by-lot inspection approach based on ISO 2859-1 and an AQL (Acceptance Quality Limit) of 6.5 (normal control level = 2). EN 14762:2006 applies to most European wood flooring product standards (see Related Standards).
Key topics and requirements
- Sampling plan: Uses a sampling table derived from ISO 2859-1 (AQL = 6.5). Sample elements must be picked randomly from the batch; sample size depends on batch size (see Table 1 in the standard).
- Characteristics evaluated: Each sample is evaluated separately for moisture content, dimensions (geometrical characteristics), and appearance. Other characteristics require case-by-case procedures.
- Moisture testing: For moisture content, 10 test pieces are taken randomly from each sampling and their average is used for conformity assessment. The exact moisture test method is determined by the referenced product standard.
- Evaluation rules: Elements are inspected individually for species, grading, geometry and moisture. Only one non-conforming characteristic per element is counted when deciding acceptance/rejection.
- Decision logic: The batch is accepted if non-conforming elements are within the acceptance limit from Table 1. If results fall between acceptance and rejection limits, a second sample is taken and combined results determine acceptance or rejection.
- Reporting: The party performing sampling must produce a sampling report including requester, producer, product info (species, grading, date), batch size, sample size and evaluation results, with causes of non-conformance described.
Practical applications and users
Who uses EN 14762:2006:
- Manufacturers and production quality teams - to verify outgoing batches meet contractual/product standard requirements at first delivery.
- Inspectors and certification bodies - to carry out standardized lot-by-lot inspections and conformity assessments.
- Buyers, installers and contractors - to define acceptance criteria for delivered wood flooring and to resolve disputes.
- Test laboratories and auditors - to perform moisture and dimensional checks consistent with referenced product standards.
Typical use cases:
- Pre-acceptance checks on delivery of parquet, lamparquet, mosaic or multi-layer flooring.
- Quality control sampling for compliance with EN product standards.
- Contractual acceptance testing and non-conformance documentation.
Related standards
- Applies to: EN 13226, EN 13227, EN 13228, EN 13488, EN 13629, EN 14761
- For EN 13489 only moisture and dimensions are covered.
- EN 13990 is excluded.
- Normative reference: ISO 2859-1 (sampling procedures for inspection by attributes).
