ISO/TC 5/SC 11 - Metal hoses and expansion joints
Tuyaux métalliques flexibles et compensateurs de dilatation
General Information
This document defines current terms concerning metal hoses, metal hose assemblies and component parts. This document applies to: a) stripwound metal hoses and hose assemblies; b) corrugated metal hoses and hose assemblies. NOTE 1 These hoses can be used braided, covered or lined. NOTE 2 Equivalent terms in English, French, German and Dutch are given in Annex A.

ISO 15465:2004 specifies the requirements for the design, manufacture and testing of four principal types of stripwound metal hose and hose assemblies, of which only one type is for pressure applications. The four are: single overlap, unpacked and packed; double overlap, unpacked and packed, the last of these having maximum permissible pressures of up to 40 bar. These hoses and hose assemblies may be supplied in nominal sizes from DN 6 to DN 500 and may operate at temperatures up to 600 °C dependent on materials of construction.

Specifies the design characteristics of corrugated flexible metallic hose which can be used to protect electrical wire and cable in explosive atmospheres or atmospheres where there is a risk of fire. These hoses can be used as static protection or for the protection of cables moved infrequently, occasionally, or less than once week. Also provides instructions for the use of these hoses and the tests required for type approval.

Cancels and replaces the first edition (1985). Specifies the diameters of double overlap leakproof flexible metal hoses with packing, of circular section, in austenitic stainless steel. The packing should not be asbestos. Suitable materials include, for example, cotton, fibre-glass, nylon, Kevlar, polyamide, polyester etc. Applies to flexible metal hoses, without external coating, used under pressure, without leakage, at temperatures between -20 °C and a maximum of 230 °C.

Defines the conditions (materials, performance characteristics, temperature-related requirements) to be met for the flexible metal hoses, without coating (as defined in ISO 7369:1983, 4.1.10). The metal hoses defined are manufactured from helically wound preformed strip, generally with a right-hand lead where the turns, with or without packing, are connected together by single or double overlapping. Flexibility is achieved by adjacent turns sliding on each other.
