IEC 60384-14-2:2025 forms the basis for a uniform procedure for a common international safety mark. It implements the approval schedule for safety tests in IEC 60384‑14, specifies a declaration of design for parameters relevant to safety and indicates conformance tests to be conducted on every lot prior to its release and requalification tests depending on changes to the declared design.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) the tables for dimensions have been replaced with a guidance text in the document,
b) the possibility to give the requirements for the service in DC applications and in high humidity conditions have been added.
c) the changes in this document in comparison with the previous edition are given in Annex B.

IEC 62391-2:2025 applies to electric double-layer capacitors for power application.
Electric double-layer capacitors for power are intended for applications that require discharge currents in the range from mA to A. The characteristics of the capacitors include such performance as relatively high capacitance and low internal resistance, which is applicable to Class 3 and Class 5 of the measurement classification specified in IEC 62391-1:2022.
The object of this document is to specify preferred ratings and characteristics and to select from IEC 62391-1:2022 the appropriate quality assessment procedures, tests and measuring methods and to give general performance requirements for this type of capacitor. Test severities and requirements specified in detail specifications referring to this document provide specific test severities and requirements of an equal or higher performance level.
The definition of power density and its calculating procedure can be found in Annex A.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) the document has been completely restructured to comply with the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2;

These capacitors can have "self-healing properties" depending on conditions of use. They are primarily intended for applications where the AC component is small with respect to the rated voltage. This part of IEC 60384 specifies preferred ratings and characteristics and selects from IEC 60384-1:2021 the appropriate quality assessment procedures, tests and measuring methods, and gives general performance requirements for this type of capacitor. Test severities and requirements specified in detail specifications referring to this sectional specification are of an equal or higher performance level; lower performance levels are not permitted. Capacitors for electromagnetic interference suppression are not included but are covered by IEC 60384‑14.
