SIST ETS 300 632 E1:2003 is the Slovenian edition of ETS 300 632 Edition 1, published by SIST for fixed radio link equipment that transmits analogue video signals in the 24,25 GHz to 29,50 GHz band. It specifies minimum technical requirements for terrestrial analogue radio relay systems used for point-to-point (P-P) connections and video distribution point-to-multipoint (P-MP) links. In practice, it is the reference for checking channel arrangements, interfaces, transmitter and receiver limits, antenna behaviour, and interference performance for this class of equipment.
What does SIST ETS 300 632 E1:2003 specify?
SIST ETS 300 632 E1:2003 specifies the minimum technical requirements for analogue radio relay systems operating in the 24,25 GHz to 29,50 GHz range. It focuses on terrestrial systems used for P-P links and P-MP video distribution, and it excludes safety aspects.
The document is organized into clauses on scope, normative references, abbreviations and symbols, general characteristics, baseband characteristics, transmitter characteristics, receiver characteristics, and system performance. It applies its requirements and limits across the environmental conditions for the chosen climatic class, so equipment selection and testing need to match the intended installation environment.
What are the key requirements of SIST ETS 300 632 E1:2003?
Frequency plan, environment, and interfaces
SIST ETS 300 632 E1:2003 ties the channel arrangements to the preferred plans in CEPT Recommendation T/R 13-02 and ITU-R Recommendation F.748-1. It also states that equipment from different manufacturers is not guaranteed to work together across the radio interface, so interoperability has to be checked explicitly in mixed-vendor networks.
The environmental and interface requirements are anchored to companion standards. Equipment must meet the relevant ETS 300 019 environmental classes, ETS 300 339 electromagnetic compatibility conditions, ETS 300 132 power supply interface rules, and the defined video, audio, and IF interfaces where those are implemented.
Antennas, feeder parts, and power
SIST ETS 300 632 E1:2003 requires antenna radiation patterns to stay within the specified envelopes, with Type B intended for higher nodal capacity and Type C for P-MP distribution. It also requires antenna cross-polar discrimination (XPD) within the 1 dB beamwidth to be at least 24 dB, which matters because poor XPD can increase interference and reduce usable capacity.
Where integral antennas are not used, the document names acceptable waveguide flange types from IEC 154 for the different parts of the band. The transmitter output power is required to stay within a defined range, with separate tolerance limits for weather protected and non-weather protected locations.
Baseband, spectrum, and receiver limits
SIST ETS 300 632 E1:2003 allows a video baseband bandwidth of up to 10 MHz and recognizes that subcarriers may carry CW, low frequency analogue, wideband analogue, or digital traffic. The video interface follows ITU-T J.61, the audio interface follows ITU-T J.21 when present, and the IF interface follows CCIR F.403-3 when present.
On the transmitter side, the document uses separate spectrum masks for standard and wide frequency deviation systems and limits the deviation so those masks are not exceeded with the specified test signals. It also limits spurious emissions over a wide frequency range and includes a short-term radio frequency tolerance limit of less than 20 ppm.
For receivers, the input level range, noise figure, sensitivity, and interference behaviour are all specified. Receiver sensitivity is tied to ITU-R picture quality grade 5, and the interference checks cover co-channel, adjacent-channel, and CW spurious interference, so the receiver must keep picture quality and output signal-to-noise performance under realistic impairment conditions.
What terms does SIST ETS 300 632 E1:2003 define?
- Carrier to Noise ratio (C/N) is the ratio used to describe wanted signal strength relative to noise, and it is a main figure for picture quality and interference margin.
- Continuous Wave (CW) is a single-frequency signal used in the document as a spurious interference test case.
- Intermediate Frequency (IF) is the intermediate stage used for interfaces and for some receiver measurements.
- Point-to-Multipoint (P-MP) means one transmitter feeding multiple receiving locations, which is the mode used for video distribution.
- Point-to-Point (P-P) means a direct link between two stations, which is the mode used for dedicated relay paths.
- Cross-Polar Discrimination (XPD) is the antenna’s ability to reject the orthogonal polarisation, which helps limit cross-polar interference.
Who uses SIST ETS 300 632 E1:2003?
SIST ETS 300 632 E1:2003 is used by radio equipment manufacturers, system designers, broadcasters, network operators, test laboratories, and procurement teams. They use it to design links, choose antennas and interfaces, verify transmitter and receiver performance, and check whether analogue video relay equipment fits a planned terrestrial network or distribution system.
It is also relevant to regulators and compliance teams that need a common technical basis for analogue fixed radio links in this frequency band.
