This standard specifies a method for the determination of moisture content in plastics. This method is only applicable to thermoplastics for which the melting point is below 160°C. The method is suitable for measuring the moisture content down to 0,005 %. This method determines the total moisture content in the test piece and includes surface moisture and moisture contained within the test piece. Because the test piece is converted to a molten state, it is assumed that all moisture is expelled.

Diese Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung des Feuchtegehaltes in Kunststoffen fest. Das Verfahren gilt nur für Thermoplaste, deren Schmelzpunkt unter 160 °C liegt. Das Verfahren ist für die Messung des Feuchtegehaltes oberhalb von 0,005% geeignet. Das Verfahren ermittelt den Gesamtfeuchtegehalt in einem Probekörper und schließt die Oberflächenfeuchte sowie die Feuchte, die im Probekörper enthalten ist, ein. Tritt der Probekörper in den geschmolzenen Zustand über, wird angenommen, daß die gesamte Feuchte abgegeben wurde.

La présente norme prescrit une méthode de détermination de la teneur en eau dans les plastiques. Cette méthode n'est applicable qu'à des thermoplastiques pour lesquels le point de fusion est inférieur à 160 °C. Elle convient pour mesurer des teneurs en eau comprises jusqu'à 0,005 %. Cette méthode détermine la teneur totale en eau de l'échantillon d'essai, en comprenant l'humidité de surface et l'eau contenue à l'intérieur de l'échantillon d'essai. Lorsque l'échantillon d'essai est arrivé à l'état fondu, on fait l'hypothèse que toute l'humidité en est expulsée.
