SIST EN 302 500-2 V1.1.1:2007 is the Slovenian standard identical to ETSI EN 302 500-2 V1.1.1, a harmonized European standard for Short Range Devices (SRD) using Ultra WideBand (UWB) technology. It specifies the radio requirements and test approach for UWB Location Tracking equipment, so manufacturers, test labs and conformity assessors can check whether indoor tracking tags and their fixed infrastructure meet the essential requirements of Article 3.2 of the R&TTE Directive.

What does SIST EN 302 500-2 V1.1.1:2007 specify?

SIST EN 302 500-2 V1.1.1:2007 specifies the requirements for ultra-wideband Location Tracking equipment operating in all or part of the frequency range from 6 GHz to 9 GHz. It is for tags attached to people or objects and tracked by a fixed infrastructure, using an integral or dedicated antenna.

The scope is limited to indoor applications. Equipment covered by SIST EN 302 500-2 V1.1.1:2007 shall not be used aboard an aircraft, aboard a ship, or at a fixed outdoor location.

The document is organized into five clauses and three annexes.

AnnexWhat it covers

Annex BInformative title of the EN in the official languages
Annex CInformative bibliography

What are the key requirements of SIST EN 302 500-2 V1.1.1:2007?

SIST EN 302 500-2 V1.1.1:2007 sets a short list of essential radio requirements and points the reader to ETSI EN 302 500-1 for the detailed limits and test methods. In practice, the document works by cross-reference: this part identifies what must be checked, and part 1 provides the actual technical values and procedures.

Operating conditions and environmental profile

Clause 4.1 requires the provider to declare the operational environmental profile, and the equipment has to meet the technical requirements whenever it operates within those declared limits. For a buyer or designer, this means the intended installation conditions must be defined early, because compliance is tied to that declared operating envelope.

Transmitter requirements

Clauses 4.2.1.1 to 4.2.1.4 cover transmitter behavior. They address maximum mean equivalent isotropically radiated power (e.i.r.p.) spectral density, the frequency where the highest maximum mean e.i.r.p. spectral density occurs, maximum peak e.i.r.p. spectral density, and minimum Pulse Repetition Frequency (PRF) for transmitters using impulsive UWB signals.

These requirements matter because they control how strongly the device can radiate and where its energy appears in the band. Clause 5.2.1 assigns the matching transmitter test suites, so a lab can demonstrate compliance in a repeatable way.

Receiver requirements

Clause 4.2.2.1 limits receiver spurious radiations. The reader should treat this as a check on unwanted emissions from the receiver path, which can matter when the product is installed near other radio equipment.

Clause 5.2.2 gives the corresponding receiver test suite. Clause 5.3 then says measurement results are interpreted using clause 7 of EN 302 500-1, so the same evaluation rules used in part 1 also apply here.

Design requirements

Clause 4.3 requires compliance with the additional design requirements in annex C of EN 302 500-1. In practice, this tells the manufacturer that radio performance alone is not enough - the equipment design also has to follow the companion part’s design-related conditions.

Essential radio testing

Clause 5 says tests are carried out at representative points within the boundary limits of the declared operational environmental profile. If performance changes with temperature or other environmental conditions, the tests have to cover enough of those conditions to give confidence in compliance. Annex A then classifies each requirement as unconditional or conditional, and each test as Essential, Other, or not separately specified.

What terms does SIST EN 302 500-2 V1.1.1:2007 define?

  • UWB - Ultra WideBand, the radio technique used by the location tracking equipment covered by this standard.
  • SRD - Short Range Devices, the equipment family this standard belongs to.
  • e.i.r.p. - equivalent isotropically radiated power, the power-related measure used in the transmitter limits.
  • PRF - Pulse Repetition Frequency, the pulse rate used for impulsive UWB signals.
  • HS-RTT - HS Requirements and conformance Test specifications Table, the table in Annex A that links requirements to test clauses.
  • R&TTE Directive - Directive 1999/5/EC, the legal framework this harmonized standard supports.

Who uses SIST EN 302 500-2 V1.1.1:2007?

Manufacturers of UWB location tracking tags and fixed infrastructure use SIST EN 302 500-2 V1.1.1:2007 when they design products for indoor tracking of people or objects. Test laboratories use it to select the right radio tests and environmental conditions.

Conformity assessment bodies and regulators use it to judge whether a product can claim presumption of conformity with Article 3.2 of the R&TTE Directive. Quality managers and buyers use it to check whether a proposed product family fits the intended indoor, fixed-infrastructure use case.

Which standards are used with SIST EN 302 500-2 V1.1.1:2007?

  • ETSI EN 302 500-1 (V1.1.1) - provides the technical characteristics, test methods, definitions, symbols, abbreviations, limit clauses and interpretation rules that this part relies on.
  • Directive 1999/5/EC (R&TTE Directive) - gives the essential radio requirement that the standard is meant to cover.
  • Directive 98/34/EC - appears in the foreword as the procedural basis for producing the standard.
  • ETSI TR 102 495-3 - listed in the bibliography as background on UWB sensor technology and location tracking applications.
  • ECC/DEC/(06)04 - listed in the bibliography as background on harmonized conditions for UWB devices below 10.6 GHz.

What does the SIST EN 302 500-2 V1.1.1:2007 document contain?

The main text is short and heavily cross-referenced. It contains the scope, the reference list, the definition rule that points to the R&TTE Directive and EN 302 500-1, the technical requirements, and the testing section.

Annex A is the most practical part for implementation and conformity work because it maps each essential requirement to its clause and test clause. Annex B gives the title in multiple official languages, and Annex C lists background documents used for context and further reading.
