    • For AL-P2XXX, AL-P7XXX and aluminium-lithium alloys: recommended reagent mix by volume is 15% sulphuric acid (99% conc.), 10% hydrofluoric acid (40% conc.), and 75% demineralised water.
    • After etching: rinse in water, desmutt in 70% nitric acid, then rinse and dry.
  • Examination and acceptance

    • Prepared test samples shall be examined with the naked eye or at low magnification to reveal macrographic features.
    • Acceptance criteria are determined by the relevant technical specification, material standard, drawing, order or inspection schedule.
