Non-destructive testing of welds - Ultrasonic testing - Acceptance levels (ISO 11666:2010)

This European Standard specifies ultrasonic acceptance levels, 2 and 3, for full penetration welded joints in ferritic steels, which correspond to the quality levels B and C of EN ISO 5817. Other acceptance levels can be used by specification.
An acceptance level corresponding to level D of EN ISO 5817 has not been included in this standard as ultrasonic testing is generally not requested for this weld quality.
These acceptance levels are applicable to testing carried out in accordance with EN 1714.
The standard is applicable to the examination of full pe¬netration ferritic steel welds, with thicknesses from 8 mm up to 100 mm. It can also be used for other types of welds, materials and thick¬nesses above 100 mm, provided the exami¬nations have been performed with necessary consi¬deration of the geometry and acoustical properti¬es of the compo¬nent and an adequate sensitivity can be employed to enable the acceptan¬ce levels of this standard to be applied. The nominal frequ¬ency of probes used in this European Standard is between 2 MHz and 5 MHz unless attenuation or require¬ments for higher resolu¬tion call for another frequen¬cy. The use of these acceptance levels in conjunction with frequen¬cies outside this range needs to be considered carefully.

Zerstörungsfreie Prüfung von Schweißverbindungen - Ultraschallprüfung - Zulässigkeitsgrenzen (ISO 11666:2010)

Diese Internationale Norm legt die Zulässigkeitsgrenzen 2 und 3 für die Ultraschallprüfung von voll durchgeschweißten
Schweißnähten in ferritischen Stählen fest, die den Bewertungsgruppen B und C von ISO 5817
entsprechen. Eine Zulässigkeitsgrenze entsprechend Bewertungsgruppe D von ISO 5817 wurde in diese
Norm nicht aufgenommen, da eine Ultraschallprüfung für Schweißnähte dieser Bewertungsgruppe im
Allgemeinen nicht verlangt wird.
Diese Zulässigkeitsgrenzen sind anwendbar für Prüfungen, die nach ISO 17640 durchgeführt werden.
Diese Internationale Norm ist anwendbar für die Prüfung von voll durchgeschweißten Schweißnähten in
ferritischen Stählen im Wanddickenbereich von 8 mm bis 100 mm. Sie kann auch für andere
Schweißnahttypen, andere Werkstoffe und Wanddicken über 100 mm angewendet werden, vorausgesetzt,
die Prüfungen wurden unter entsprechender Berücksichtigung von Geometrie und akustischen Eigenschaften
des Bauteils durchgeführt und es kann eine Prüfempfindlichkeit erreicht werden, mit der die
Zulässigkeitsgrenzen dieser Norm angewendet werden können. Die Nennfrequenz für die nach dieser
Europäischen Norm verwendeten Prüfköpfe liegt zwischen 2 MHz und 5 MHz, sofern nicht erhöhte
Schallschwächungen oder erhöhte Anforderungen an die Auflösung andere Frequenzen erfordern. Die
Anwendung dieser Zulässigkeitsgrenzen bei Prüfungen mit Frequenzen außerhalb des genannten Bereichs
bedarf zuvor einer kritischen Betrachtung.

L'ISO 11666:2010 spécifie les niveaux d'acceptation 2 et 3 pour le contrôle par ultrasons de joints en aciers ferritiques soudés à pleine pénétration, qui correspondent aux niveaux de qualité B et C de l'ISO 5817. Il n'a pas été inclus de niveau d'acceptation correspondant au niveau de qualité D de l'ISO 5817 dans l'ISO 11666:2010 car le contrôle par ultrasons n'est généralement pas demandé pour cette qualité de soudure.

3 Measurement of indication length
The length of an indication shall be determined by measuring the distance along the length over which the
echo amplitude is above the evaluation level, using the fixed amplitude level technique specified in Annex B.

3 Measurement of indication length
The length of an indication shall be determined by measuring the distance along the length over which the
echo amplitude is above the evaluation level, using the fixed amplitude level technique described in Annex B.
4 New levels
The sensitivity setting may be performed by one of the following methods. For sensitivity setting and the
subsequent examinations the same technique shall be used:
 Technique 1: Based on 3 mm dia side drilled holes
 Technique 2: Based on the distance-gain-size system (DGS) using flat bottomed holes
 Technique 3: Using a DAC curve of a rectangular notch of 1 mm depth and 1 mm width
This technique is applicable only for beam angles ≥ 70° and only for material thickness t ≤ 15 mm.
 Technique 4: Using the tandem technique with reference to a 6 mm dia flat bottomed hole.

This technique is applicable only for beam angle 45° and thickness t ≥ 15 mm.
Four levels are defined. All levels are linked to the reference reflectors given in table A.1 and listed above for
the technique used:
 Reference level
 Evaluation level
 Recording levels (for two acceptance levels , reference levels is - 4 dB below acceptance level)
 Acceptance level (for two quality levels)
5 Acceptance levels
5.1 General
The relationship between acceptance levels and quality levels is given in EN 12062. Any other relationship
between acceptance levels and testing levels shall be defined by specification.
The acceptance levels in this document are valid for all testing levels and for all techniques as defined in EN
1714, including tests with straight beam probes.
If characterisation has been specified in accordance with EN 1713, planar indications are not acceptable. For
non-planar indications, the acceptance levels in this document apply.
