kSIST FprEN 6128:2026 is SIST’s publication for an aerospace blind bolt with a 100° flush head and high strength. It specifies the bolt’s configuration, dimensions, tolerances and mass, and it also covers the material, finish, lubrication, designation, marking and the technical specification used for the part.
What does kSIST FprEN 6128:2026 specify?
kSIST FprEN 6128:2026 specifies the requirements for a stainless steel blind bolt with a 100° flush head for aerospace applications. The document is organized into clauses on scope, normative references, terms and definitions, requirements, designation, marking and technical specification.
The core technical content is built around Figure 1 and Figure 2 and Tables 1 to 6. In practice, that means the standard gives the geometry, the installed performance data, the allowable grip range, the mass, and the approved material and finish options needed to select and inspect the fastener.
What are the key requirements of kSIST FprEN 6128:2026?
The most important requirements are in Clause 4, and they link the part’s geometry, installation performance and material choices. For a user, this is the section that drives part selection, drawing checks, incoming inspection and installation planning.
Geometry, tolerances and installed performance
Clause 4.1 requires the configuration, dimensions, tolerances, static strength, tensile preload and spindle retention to conform to Figure 1, Figure 2 and Tables 1 and 2. In practice, this is the main acceptance basis for the fastener shape and the installed mechanical performance.
Figure 1 identifies the bolt configuration, serrated pin geometry, locking collar, sleeve and shifting anvil/drive washer arrangement. Figure 2 shows typical installation and notes the permitted blind-side slope, which matters when the joint is hard to access or has a non-flat blind side.
Grip range and mass
Clause 4.2 assigns the grip range and mass from Tables 3 and 4. That lets the buyer or engineer match the fastener to the joint thickness and control weight during design or procurement.
The designation uses a grip length code, so the table is not just reference data - it is what makes the correct part number possible. The table also includes special notes for some diameter codes, which matters when a single joint design uses different bolt sizes.
Material, finish and lubrication
Clause 4.3 requires material, finish and lubrication according to Tables 5 and 6. The tables list material combinations for the sleeve, serrated pin and locking collar, together with finish options and permitted lubricants.
For practice, this means the spec is not open-ended on surface treatment or lubrication. A supplier has to build the part from the listed material options and use one of the permitted lubricants when lubrication is applied.
Designation and marking
Clause 5 gives the part designation format, using the standard number, material code, diameter code, grip length code and sleeve finish code. Clause 6 requires marking in EN 2424 style B, with the standard number, grip length code and manufacturer identification on the fastener head.
This matters because the part number and head marking are the traceability tools used in purchasing, kitting and inspection. Clause 5 also shows how diameter code 05 is handled when a reduced diameter shifting anvil/drive washer is used.
Technical specification
Clause 7 states that the technical specification is NASM8975, except for the strength, preload and spindle retention values given in Table 2. That tells the reader which general fastener specification applies and where this document overrides it.
What terms does kSIST FprEN 6128:2026 define?
- Blind bolt - A fastener intended for joints that can be installed from one side.
- 100° flush head - A head form designed to sit in a 100° countersink with a flush outer surface.
- Grip length - The joint thickness range the fastener is intended to clamp, encoded in the designation.
- Preload - The tensile load present in the installed fastener after setting.
- Spindle retention - The ability of the spindle to remain retained after installation.
- CRES - The material code used in the tables for corrosion-resistant steel variants.
- Marking - The identification placed on the fastener head for traceability and part control.
Who uses kSIST FprEN 6128:2026?
kSIST FprEN 6128:2026 is used by aerospace designers, fastener manufacturers, procurement teams, quality inspectors and installation personnel. It helps them choose the correct bolt configuration, verify the installed performance, define the correct designation and check marking and material/finish compliance.
It is also relevant to suppliers of surface treatment and lubrication, because the document names the permitted finish and lubricant options and links them to the material table.
What changed in kSIST FprEN 6128:2026 from the previous edition?
kSIST FprEN 6128:2026 updates the earlier EN 6128:2017 edition. The listed technical changes are updated Figures 1 and 2 with dimensions Q and X removed, removal of dimension Q from Table 1, corrected single values and removed hole limits in Table 3, corrected values for diameter code 05 in Table 4, and updated Table 5 and Table 6 to match the current normative references and preferred options.
Which standards are used with kSIST FprEN 6128:2026?
| Standard | What it contributes |
|---|---|
| EN 2424 | Marking of aerospace products |
| EN 4473 | Aluminium pigmented coatings for fasteners |
| DOD-L-85645 | Dry film lubricant |
| MIL-PRF-46010 | Solid film, heat cured, corrosion inhibiting lubricant |
| NASM8975 | General technical specification for blind fasteners |
| SAE AMS2700 | Passivation of corrosion resistant steels |
| SAE AMS5687 | Wire material for Inconel |
| SAE AMS5690 | Wire material for 316 corrosion and heat resistant steel |
| SAE AMS5737 | Wire, bar and related stock for A286 material |
| SAE AS5272 | Solid film, heat cured, corrosion inhibiting lubricant |
| SAE AS87132 | Cetyl alcohol lubricant for fasteners |
What does the kSIST FprEN 6128:2026 document contain?
kSIST FprEN 6128:2026 contains Figure 1 for the bolt configuration and Figure 2 for typical installation. It also contains Tables 1 and 2 for dimensions, tolerances, strength, preload and spindle retention.
Tables 3 and 4 provide grip range and mass data for selection and ordering. Tables 5 and 6 give the material, finish and lubrication options, including the sleeve finish codes used in the designation. Clauses 5 to 7 then turn those technical definitions into the part designation, head marking and the governing technical specification.
