materials from which these specimens are made are given. Properties and test methods which are suitable and
necessary to characterize PMCs are listed.
The properties have been selected from the general test methods in ISO 10350-1. Other test methods in wide use
for, or of particular significance to, PMCs are also included in this part of ISO 15252, as are the designatory
properties found in ISO 15252-1.
In order to obtain reproducible and comparable test results, it is necessary to use the methods of preparation and
conditioning, the specimen dimensions and the test procedures specified herein. Values determined will not
necessarily be identical to those obtained using specimens of different dimensions or prepared using different
procedures.

Overview
EN ISO 15252-2:1999 - Plastics: Epoxy powder moulding compounds (EP‑PMCs) - Part 2 specifies standardized methods for the preparation of test specimens and the determination of material properties for epoxy powder moulding compounds (EP‑PMCs). The standard defines handling and conditioning requirements for test material, procedures for producing specimens (injection or compression moulding), specimen dimensions and conditioning atmospheres, and the test methods required to characterise EP‑PMCs reproducibly and comparably.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Specimen preparation methods
- Injection moulding in accordance with ISO 10724‑1/2. Typical injection conditions shown (example ranges): melt temperature 100–110 °C, mould temperature 160–180 °C, injection velocity 50–150 mm/s; cure time must be fixed and reported.
- Compression moulding in accordance with ISO 295. Typical ranges: mould temperature 165–175 °C, mould pressure 25–40 MPa, cure time 20–60 s per mm thickness.
- If injection moulding of test specimens is not possible (high thermal flow EP‑PMCs), compression moulding and subsequent machining (ISO 2818) is permitted.
- Material handling and pretreatment
- Store powders in moisture‑proof containers; express moisture content as % of compound mass for filled/reinforced materials.
- Pretreatment (drying, preforming, preplastification) as required and according to manufacturer or ISO 295 procedures.
- Conditioning before testing
- Method 1 (general): ISO 291 conditioning for at least 16 h at (23 ± 2) °C and (50 ± 5)% RH.
- Method 2 (water exposure): 24 h in distilled water at ambient temperature then ISO 291 for 2 h at (23 ± 2) °C and (50 ± 5)% RH.
- Properties and test methods
- Properties are selected from ISO 10350‑1 and include rheological/processing properties (moulding shrinkage, thermal flow), mechanical properties (tensile modulus/strength, flexural modulus/strength, Charpy impact), puncture impact, and other property tests referenced to relevant ISO/IEC test methods.
- Reproducibility requirement
- Use the specified preparation, conditioning, specimen dimensions and procedures to obtain comparable data; results may differ if different specimen geometries or procedures are used.
Applications and who uses this standard
EN ISO 15252‑2 is used by:
- Materials engineers and R&D teams developing or comparing EP‑PMC formulations.
- Quality control and testing laboratories performing standardized mechanical, thermal and rheological tests.
- Specifiers, OEMs and procurement teams that require comparable property data for design and selection of thermosetting powder moulding compounds.
- Certification bodies and standards committees for compliance, specification and material data sheets.
Practical benefits: ensures consistent specimen production, reliable inter‑laboratory comparison of EP‑PMC properties, and clear reporting of moulding/curing conditions.

ISO 15252-2:1999(E)
Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO
member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical
committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has
the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in
liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical
Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3.
Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting.
Publication as an International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this part of ISO 15252 may be the subject of
patent rights. ISO shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
International Standard ISO 15252-2 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 61, Plastics, Subcommittee
SC 12, Thermosetting materials.
ISO 15252 consists of the following parts, under the general title Plastics — Epoxy powder moulding compounds
(EP-PMCs):
Part 1: Designation system and basis for specifications
Part 2: Preparation of test specimens and determination of properties
