1 Scope
This document is applicable to citric acid used as an antiscalant for membranes in the treatment of water
intended for human consumption. It describes the characteristics and specifies the requirements and the
corresponding analytical methods for citric acid. It gives information on its use as an antiscalant for
membranes in water treatment. It also provides guidance relating to safe handling and use (see Annex B).
