Safety of woodworking machines - Chip and dust extraction systems with fixed installation - Safety requirements
This European Standard deals with the significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant for chip and dust extraction systems for fixed installation and for connection with machines for working on solid wood (including hard wood) and wood-based materials, when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer, including reasonably foreseeable misuse.
This European Standard deals also with the technical requirements to minimize the hazards in connection with the temporary storage of wood dust and chips in a silo, bin or container including charging and discharge systems.
This European standard does not apply to:
a) chip and dust extraction systems with filters installed indoors (covered by prEN 16770);
b) extraction equipment (e.g. extraction hoods, ducts) within a woodworking machine including the outlet to which the extraction system is connected;
c) chip and dust extraction systems designed for KST values above 200 bar ms−1;
d) mechanical conveying systems between filter and storage facility;
e) extraction systems and conveying systems with underpressure below 0,3 bar or overpressure above 0,3 bar;
f) storage devices for pressed wood products (e.g. pellets) and humid shavings.
Requirements for containers are not dealt with in this standard.
This European Standard is not applicable to machines which are manufactured before the date of its publication as EN.

Diese Europäische Norm behandelt die signifikanten Gefährdungen, Gefährdungssituationen und Gefährdungsereignisse für ortsfeste Absauganlagen für Holzstaub und Späne und für deren Verbindung mit Maschinen zur Bearbeitung von Massivholz (einschließlich Hartholz), Holzwerkstoffen und holzähnlichen Werkstoffen, wenn sie bestimmungsgemäß und entsprechend den durch den Hersteller vorhersehbaren Bedingungen verwendet werden, einschließlich vernünftigerweise vorhersehbarem Missbrauch.
Diese Europäische Norm behandelt auch die technischen Anforderungen, um die Gefahren im Zusammenhang mit der zeitweiligen Lagerung von Holzstaub, Spänen und Hackschnitzeln in einem Silo, Sammelbehälter oder Container einschließlich Beschickungs- und Austragssystem auf ein Mindestmaß zu reduzieren.
Diese Europäische Norm gilt nicht für:
a) Absauganlagen für Holzstaub und Späne mit innen aufgestellten Filtern (durch prEN 16770 abgedeckt);
b) Absaugausrüstungen (z. B. Absaughauben, Rohrleitungen) innerhalb einer Holzbearbeitungsmaschine, einschließlich des Absaugstutzens, an den die Absauganlage angeschlossen wird;
c) Absauganlagen für Holzstaub und Späne konstruiert für KST-Werte oberhalb 200 bar ms 1;
d) mechanische Transportsysteme zwischen Filtereinheit und Lagereinrichtung;
e) Absaugsysteme und Transportsysteme mit Unterdruck unterhalb von 0,3 bar oder Überdruck oberhalb von 0,3 bar;
f) Lagereinrichtungen für gepresste Holzprodukte (z. B. Pellets) und feuchte Hackschnitzel.
Anforderungen für Container werden nicht in dieser Norm behandelt.
Diese Europäische Norm gilt nicht für Maschinen, die vor Veröffentlichung als Europäische Norm hergestellt wurden.

La présente Norme européenne traite des phénomènes dangereux, situations et événements dangereux significatifs applicables aux systèmes d'extraction des copeaux et poussières pour les installations fixes et pour les raccordements aux machines pour le travail du bois massif (y compris de bois dur), des matériaux à base de bois et des matériaux similaires au bois, lorsqu’ils sont utilisés normalement et dans les conditions prévues par le fabricant, incluant une mauvaise utilisation raisonnablement prévisible.
La présente Norme européenne traite également des prescriptions techniques pour réduire les phénomènes dangereux liés au stockage temporaire des poussières de bois, des copeaux et des plaquettes dans un silo, un bac de réception ou un conteneur y compris les systèmes de chargement et de déchargement.
La présente norme européenne ne s’applique pas aux :
a) systèmes d’extraction des copeaux et poussières avec des filtres installés à l'intérieur (couverts par le prEN 16770) ;
b) équipements d'extraction (par exemple, buses d'extraction, conduits) situés dans une machine à bois, y compris la sortie à laquelle le système d'extraction est raccordé ;
c) systèmes d’extraction des copeaux et poussières conçus pour des indices KST supérieures à 200 bar ms1 ;
d) systèmes de convoyage mécanique situés entre le filtre et l'installation de stockage ;
e) systèmes d’extraction et systèmes de convoyage avec une dépression inférieure à 0,3 bar, ou une surpression supérieure à 0,3 bar ;

This European Standard deals with these significant hazards by defining safety requirements and/or measures or by reference to relevant standards. In addition, the system shall be designed in accordance with the principles of EN ISO 12100:2010 for hazards relevant but not significant, and which are not dealt with in this document (e.g. sharp edges). For guidance in connection with risk reduction by design, see EN ISO 12100:2010, 6.2 and for safeguarding measures, see EN ISO 12100:2010, 6.3. 5.2 Control systems 5.2.1 Safety and reliability of control systems Control systems shall be designed in compliance with the principles of EN ISO 13849-1:2008. The following safety-relevant functions shall correspond to a performance level (PL) according to EN ISO 13849-1:2008: — mode selection PL c (see 5.3.2 and 5.8.3); — emergency stop PL c (see 5.2.2 and 5.8.3); — interlocking (shut down and switching procedures) to limit effects of fire and explosions PL c (see 5.4.1); — monitoring of dust concentration in recirculation air PL b (see 5.6.4.2); — spark extinguishing system PL c (see 5.4.3.2.1); — interlocking of charging/discharging system with access openings to silos PL c (see 5.8.3). Verification: By checking the relevant calculations, drawings and the data of the components used. 5.2.2 Emergency stop Emergency stop devices shall meet the requirements of EN 60204-1:2006 and EN 60204-1:2006/A1:2009, 9.2.5.4 and 10.7, and EN ISO 13850:2008, and shall be placed on each control panel. 5.4.1.3 Avoidance of chip and dust accumulation in ducting Ducting shall be designed in such a way that accumulation of chip and dust does not occur. The conveying air velocity in all parts of the ducting shall be sufficient to avoid accumulation of chip and dust in the ducts. Duct connections, inspection doors, dampers, gate valves, fire-gates, etc. integrated in ducting shall not hinder continuous material transportation. NOTE The minimum conveying air velocity depends on the material load, the moisture content, the particle size of the chip and dust. Table 4 shows minimum conveying air velocities of chip and dust with a moisture content

The spreading of fire and smoke through ducting connected to the filter (extraction ducting, recirculation air ducting, conveying system) shall be avoided. With regard to fire protection requirements, national rules and regulations should be adhered to in agreement with the customer. 5.4.2.2 Measures against fire spreading Filter shall be located outdoors. Ducts connected to the filter (extraction ducts, recirculation air ducts, conveying system) shall be equipped with devices to stop the spreading of fire and smoke. Extraction ducts and recirculation air ducts shall either: a) not pass through a fire wall; or b) be equipped with fire gates according to EN 1366-7:2004 (extraction ducts) and fire dampers according to EN 1366-2:2015 (recirculation air ducts) of an appropriate class of fire rating; or c) be insulated in accordance with the requirements of EN 1366-1:2014 in the corresponding fire zones. Verification: By visual inspection, by checking of the corresponding drawings and by requesting a declaration of compliance from the manufacturer of the components. 5.4.2.3 Measures against fire damage All filters, silos and any other closed storage devices with a storage volume of > 1 m3 shall, as a minimum, have a fixed fire suppression system installed with a fire hose coupling according to local standards. The coupling shall be at a height of 0,4 m to 0,8 m above ground and safely and easily accessible for connection with a fire hose. The fire suppression system shall comply with the following requirements: a) Water nozzles shall be placed so that the entire cross section is reached by the water and the required water flow of 5,0 l/m2min is ensured. The area protected by one nozzle shall not exceed 12 m2. The distance between nozzles shall not exceed 4 m and the distance between nozzles and filter housing shall not exceed 2 m. Instructions by the manufacturer of the nozzles shall be considered; b) automatically activated sprinkler systems shall also have a manual activation. SIST EN 12779:2016
