SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.1:2006 is the Slovenian adoption of ETSI EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.1. It specifies environmental test methods and severities for telecommunications equipment used in portable and non-stationary applications, so a reader can check whether equipment is built to withstand the conditions expected in its declared environmental class.
What does SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.1:2006 specify?
SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.1:2006 specifies the environmental tests used to verify the required resistibility of telecommunication equipment for portable and non-stationary use. The scope is tied to the environmental classes defined in EN 300 019-1-7 [1], and the document is organized around four test specifications plus notes to the tables.
The main structure is:
- Clause 1 - Scope
- Clause 2 - References
- Clause 3 - Environmental test specifications
- 3.1 T 7.1: Temperature-controlled locations
- 3.2 T 7.2: Partly temperature-controlled locations
- 3.3 T 7.3: Partly weatherprotected and non-weatherprotected locations
- 3.4 T 7.3E: Partly weatherprotected and non-weatherprotected locations - extended
- Clause 4 - Notes to tables
- Annex A - Informative bibliography
What are the key requirements of SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.1:2006?
SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.1:2006 requires the equipment under test to be treated as operational throughout the stated test conditions unless the product specification says otherwise. In practice, that means the test plan has to define the required performance before, during and after testing, and it has to choose input and load conditions that fully exercise the equipment. Heat dissipation is normally maximized, except in the steady-state low-temperature test, where it is minimized.
The document separates portable use into four environmental classes
- T 7.1 covers temperature-controlled enclosed locations where humidity is usually not controlled.
- T 7.2 covers enclosed locations with no temperature or humidity control, but with possible heating.
- T 7.3 covers partly weatherprotected and non-weatherprotected locations, with non-weatherprotected use limited in cold seasons.
- T 7.3E extends that coverage to locations of any construction except Extremely Cold and Cold Climates where extremely low temperatures are avoided.
This matters because the declared location determines which climatic and mechanical tests apply.
Climatic tests are selected by location type
The climatic tables in clauses 3.1 to 3.4 cover cold, dry heat, temperature change, high relative humidity, condensation, solar radiation, water exposure and other environmental factors. T 7.1 mainly addresses indoor-like conditions, while T 7.2 adds more severe humidity, icing and biological exposure. T 7.3 and T 7.3E add outdoor exposure, including rain and impacting water, and T 7.3E uses the broadest low-temperature severity.
Some conditions are handled by design guidance rather than by a test
The notes state that no test is recommended for some parameters, such as low and high air pressure, chemically active substances, and mechanically active substances. For these cases, the document expects the designer to consider the severities when choosing materials and components. That matters in practice because the environmental category still affects design decisions even when it is not represented by a separate test.
Mechanical tests apply across all portable classes
Tables 5 and 6 define the mechanical tests for all classes from 7.1 to 7.3E. They include vibration, shock, bump, free fall, and drop and topple tests, with different severities for IEC 721 class 7M2 and 7M3. The notes also explain why random vibration is preferred over sinusoidal vibration, and why free fall and drop/topple are both used for portable equipment.
The notes explain how to run the tests
The notes clarify details such as cold start-up timing, the effect of solar heating at high temperature, the use of temperature-change testing to check design tolerancing, and the choice of rain and bump methods. In practice, these notes help a test lab set up a repeatable programme and help a buyer or manufacturer understand what the chosen severity is intended to represent.
What terms does SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.1:2006 define?
- Portable and non-stationary use - equipment installed permanently or temporarily and moved between locations, so it must tolerate changing environmental exposure.
- Environmental class - the standardized set of conditions from EN 300 019-1-7 that defines the expected environment.
- T 7.1 - the test specification for temperature-controlled locations.
- T 7.2 - the test specification for partly temperature-controlled locations.
- T 7.3E - the extended test specification for partly weatherprotected and non-weatherprotected locations.
- Acceleration Spectral Density (ASD) - the way random vibration severity is expressed in the mechanical test tables.
- IEC 721 class 7M2 / 7M3 - the mechanical severity classes used for vibration, shock, bump and fall testing.
Who uses SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.1:2006?
Telecommunications equipment designers use SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.1:2006 to choose materials, housings, mounts and internal construction for portable equipment. Test laboratories use it to set up climate, vibration, shock, bump and fall programmes. Quality managers and product specifiers use it to define the environmental class and the pass/fail criteria in product specifications. Buyers and procurement teams use it when they need portable or movable telecom equipment that matches a stated operating environment.
What changed in SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.1:2006 from the previous edition?
The history lists earlier publications of ETS 300 019-2-7, including V2.1.2 and V3.0.0, before V3.0.1. This edition is the later publication in that sequence.
Which standards are used with SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.1:2006?
- EN 300 019-1-7 [1] - defines the environmental classes and conditions for portable and non-stationary use.
- IEC 60068-2 (all parts) [2] - provides the test methods used throughout the climatic and mechanical tables.
- EN 300 019-2-0 [3] - gives the general overview of part 2.
- ISO 4180-2 [4] - supports the selection of free-fall test heights by mass.
- ETR 035 [5] - provides guidance and terminology for environmental engineering.
What does the SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.1:2006 document contain?
SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.1:2006 contains four climatic test tables, two mechanical test tables, and a detailed note section that explains the intent behind the selected severities. It also identifies the IEC test methods used for cold, dry heat, damp heat, temperature change, vibration, shock, bump, free fall and drop/topple. Annex A gives an informative bibliography, and the foreword places the document within the wider EN 300 019 series of environmental conditions and environmental tests for telecommunications equipment.
