Overview
SIST EN 60700-2:2017/A1:2021 is a European Standard published by CLC, focusing on the terminology of thyristor valves used in high voltage direct current (HVDC) power transmission systems. This amendment updates the original EN 60700-2:2016 standard, aligning it with IEC 60700-2:2016/AMD1:2021, and was approved in September 2021. The document ensures clear and harmonized definitions related to HVDC thyristor valves, which are critical components for efficient and reliable electrical power transmission over long distances.
This standard is essential for engineers, manufacturers, and professionals working with HVDC systems, aiding in standardizing communication, design, and operation by defining key terms and concepts related to thyristor valve technology.
Key Topics
Thyristor Valve Terminology
The standard provides precise definitions for technical terms associated with thyristor valves, including new and revised terms such as:- Single valve unit: A structure comprising only one thyristor valve.
- Valve leakage detection system: Equipment for detecting leaks in the valve's cooling media.
- Valve stray capacitance: The equivalent capacitance between valve terminals due to the mechanical arrangement, excluding external capacitor effects.
- Commutation overshoot: The peak instantaneous voltage across the valve during commutation exceeding the line voltage.
- Valve protective firing: A protective method where thyristors are deliberately fired to prevent damage from excessive voltages or rates of voltage change.
Amendment Highlights
This amendment refines terminology to improve clarity and precision, crucial for designing, operating, and maintaining HVDC systems. It also includes illustrative material like updated converter unit diagrams to aid understanding.Standards Development Process
The document was prepared by IEC technical committee 22F, specializing in power electronics for transmission and distribution systems, demonstrating international collaboration and consensus in standardization.
Applications
HVDC Power Transmission
Thyristor valves are pivotal in converting AC to DC and vice versa for HVDC projects, which enable bulk power transfer over long distances with minimized losses. Standardized terminology ensures consistent engineering practices across manufacturers and operators.Electrical Equipment Manufacturing
The standard guides manufacturers in defining product specifications and descriptions, facilitating clear communication and compliance with international and European requirements.System Design and Maintenance
By understanding and applying the standardized terminologies, engineers can effectively design, troubleshoot, and maintain HVDC converters, improving system reliability and safety.Training and Documentation
This terminology standard serves as a reference for technical training, manuals, and technical documentation, enabling coherent knowledge transfer among professionals in the electrical engineering field.
