SIST EN 300 019-2-6 V2.1.2:2006 is the Slovene adoption of ETSI EN 300 019-2-6 V2.1.2 for Environmental Engineering (EE) of telecommunications equipment in ship environments. It specifies the test severities and test methods used to verify equipment resistibility for telecommunication equipment installed permanently or temporarily on ships. Engineers, test laboratories, quality managers and buyers use it to select the right shipboard environmental tests and to state how equipment has to perform during them.

What does SIST EN 300 019-2-6 V2.1.2:2006 specify?

SIST EN 300 019-2-6 V2.1.2:2006 covers ship environments from the ETS 300 019-1-6 environmental classes and vessel categories. It sets out the environmental test specifications for those ship classes and groups the content into a scope, references, environmental test specifications, notes to tables, and an informative bibliography.

AnnexWhat it covers
A (informative)Bibliography

The main body is structured around three ship-location classes:

  • T 6.1 - totally weatherprotected locations
  • T 6.2 - partly weatherprotected locations
  • T 6.3 - non-weatherprotected locations

Tables 1 to 3 give the climatic test specifications for those classes, Table 4 gives the mechanical tests for all three, and Table 5 gives an alternative mechanical test set for Classes 6.2 and 6.3.

What are the key requirements of SIST EN 300 019-2-6 V2.1.2:2006?

The standard is built around a practical test setup: the equipment under test is assumed to remain operational throughout the test unless stated otherwise, and the product specification has to state the required performance before, during and after testing. This matters because the document is not only about exposure conditions - it also requires you to define what “acceptable operation” means for the product.

Test setup and operating condition

Clause 3 says the input and load conditions should be chosen so that the equipment is fully utilized, and heat dissipation should be maximized except in the steady-state low-temperature test. In practice, this means the test has to represent real service load, not a light-duty condition that hides weaknesses.

Climatic test classes

Clause 3.1 defines T 6.1 for totally weatherprotected ship locations, Clause 3.2 defines T 6.2 for partly weatherprotected locations, and Clause 3.3 defines T 6.3 for non-weatherprotected locations. The three tables step up the severity as exposure increases, and they cover temperature, humidity, water, radiation, chemically active substances, mechanically active substances, flora and micro organisms, and fauna.

In practice, the class you choose determines how much environmental stress the equipment must survive. A sheltered installation needs the T 6.1 set, while exposed shipboard equipment needs the more severe T 6.2 or T 6.3 set.

Mechanical tests

Table 4 gives the mechanical tests for Classes 6.1 to 6.3 under IEC Class 6M3, including sinusoidal vibration, shock, bump and ship motion. Table 5 gives an alternative for Classes 6.2 and 6.3 under IEC Class 6M4, including random vibration as an alternative to sinusoidal vibration.

For the reader, this means the document is not limited to climate. It also tells you how to check that ship vibration, impacts and motion will not stop the equipment from working.

Notes to tables

Clause 4 explains why some conditions are tested and why others are handled through design or material choice instead of a direct test. It also explains when equipment should be mounted in the in-use position, when function should be monitored during testing, and when special handling applies for water, solar radiation, corrosion, vibration and shock.

What terms does SIST EN 300 019-2-6 V2.1.2:2006 define?

  • Environmental Engineering (EE) - ETSI’s area for environmental conditions and environmental tests for telecommunications equipment.
  • Weatherprotected location - a ship location sheltered from direct weather exposure.
  • Non-weatherprotected location - a ship location with normal unlimited exposure on board.
  • Operational state - the equipment is expected to keep operating during the test unless the clause says otherwise.
  • Resistibility - the ability of the equipment to withstand the specified environmental conditions.
  • ASD (Acceleration Spectral Density) - the random vibration measure used in the alternative mechanical test in Table 5.
  • In-use position - the mounting position the equipment has in service, which the mechanical tests use for realism.

Who uses SIST EN 300 019-2-6 V2.1.2:2006?

Telecommunication equipment designers use it when they are defining enclosure, mounting and material choices for shipboard products. Test laboratories use it to set up climatic, vibration and shock tests for ship installations. Quality managers and buyers use it to compare products and to check whether a supplied item matches the expected ship environment.

It is relevant wherever telecommunications equipment is installed permanently or temporarily on ships and needs qualification for the environmental class of that location.

What changed in SIST EN 300 019-2-6 V2.1.2:2006 from the previous edition?

The history identifies an earlier Edition 1, published in May 1994 as ETS 300 019-2-6, and the present version as V2.1.2 published in September 2001. The page also identifies the document as EN 300 019-2-6 Version 2.1.2.

Which standards are used with SIST EN 300 019-2-6 V2.1.2:2006?

  • ETS 300 019-1-6 - gives the ship environmental classes and vessel categories that this part tests against.
  • IEC 60068-2 - provides the environmental test methods used in the climatic and mechanical tables.
  • ETS 300 019-2-0 - gives the general overview of part 2 of the multipart standard.

Annex A also cites ETSI ETR 035 for guidance and terminology, and IEC 60068-1 for general guidance on environmental testing.

What does the SIST EN 300 019-2-6 V2.1.2:2006 document contain?

The document contains three ship-location test specifications, one set of mechanical tests for all ship-location classes, and an alternative mechanical set for Classes 6.2 and 6.3. It also contains notes that explain the intent behind the severities and the test choices.

The tables are the practical core of the document. They tell the user which IEC test method to apply for each environmental case and how the ship classes differ in severity.

Annex A provides the bibliography, and the history records the publication trail.
