BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 953, Drift expanding test on light metai and light metal ailoy
tubes, was drawn up by Technical Committee ISOlTC 79, Light metals and their alloys, the Secretariat
of which is held by the Association Française de Normalisation (AFNOR).
Work on this question led, in 1966, to the adoption of a Draft IS0 Recommendation.
In March 1967, this Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 1133) was circulated to all the IS0
Member Bodies for enquiry. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an editorial nature,
by the following Member Bodies :

1. SCOPE
This IS0 Recommendation relates to the drift expanding test on light metal and light metal alloy
tubes, having an external diameter not greater than 100 mm (4 in) and a wall thickness not greater
than 1 O mm (0.4 in).
NOTE. - This test is not normally used for magnesium and magnesium alloy tubes.

La Recommandation ISOlR 953, Essai d’évasement des tubes en métaux légers et en leurs
a été élaborée par le Comité Technique ISOlTC 79, Métaux légers et leurs alliages, dont le

Les travaux relatifs à cette question aboutirent, en 1966, à l’adoption d’un Projet de
Recommandation ISO.
En mars 1967, ce Projet de Recommandation IS0 (NO 1133) fut soumis à l’enquête de tous les
Comités Membres de I’ISO. I1 fut approuve, sous reserve de quelques modifications d‘ordre rédaction-
nel, par les Comités Membres suivants :

1. OBJET
La présente Recommandation IS0 concérne l’essai d’évasement des tubes en métaux légers et en
leurs alliages de diamètre extérieur inférieur ou égal à 100 mm (4 in) dont l’épaisseur de paroi est
inférieure ou égale à 10 mm (0,4 in).
NOTE. - Cet essai n’est habituellement pas utilisé pour les tubes en magnésium et en alliages de magnésium.
