operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and in addition
to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports, Publicly
Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as "IEC Publication(s)"). Their preparation is
entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with may participate
in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also
participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all interested
IEC National Committees.
3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National
Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC
Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any
misinterpretation by any end user.
4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publications
transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence between
any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in the latter.
5) IEC itself does not provide any attestation of conformity. Independent certification bodies provide conformity
assessment services and, in some areas, access to IEC marks of conformity. IEC is not responsible for any services
carried out by independent certification bodies.
6) All users should ensure that they have the latest edition of this publication.
7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including individual experts and
members of its technical committees and IEC National Committees for any personal injury, property damage or other
damage of any nature whatsoever, whether direct or indirect, or for costs (including legal fees) and expenses arising
out of the publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any other IEC Publications.
8) Attention is drawn to the Normative references cited in this publication. Use of the referenced publications is
indispensable for the correct application of this publication.

AMENDEMENT 2
AVANT-PROPOS

8 Marking and instructions
8.14.1.101 Safety instructions for table saw
Replace the existing text of 8.14.1.101 2) c) with the following new text:
c) Never use the mitre gauge to feed the workpiece when ripping. Guiding the workpiece with
the rip fence and the mitre gauge at the same time increases the likelihood of saw blade binding
and kickback.
Add, after 8.14.1.101 2) l), the following new item m) and Note:
m) When cross-cutting with the mitre gauge the material must not be in contact with the rip
fence while cutting. Using the rip fence as a workpiece length stop while cutting increases
the likelihood of saw blade binding and kickback.
NOTE New item 8.14.1.101 2) m) can be moved to a different location within the cutting procedures warnings.
Replace the existing text of 8.14.2 b) 107) with the following new text:
107) Instructions on how to safely bevel rip, which may include towards the rip fence;
19 Mechanical hazards
Replace the first paragraph of 19.101.2.3 with the following new text:
The side barriers of the saw blade guard shall protect at least the cutting edge zone of the
guarded area "G" against incidental contact from either side of the saw blade for any extended
riving knife and saw blade combination specified in accordance with 8.14.2 a).
Replace the existing text of 19.101.2.8, modified by Amendment 1, with the following new text:
19.101.2.8 A saw blade guard and its mounting means shall not cause undue resistance when
a workpiece is advanced toward and passed through the saw blade.
Compliance is checked by the following test.
To perform the test, a workpiece of a common wood shall have the following characteristics, as
illustrated in Figure 117:
– a length of at least 2D;
– a width dimension that is wide enough to fully engage both sides of the saw blade guard; and
– a front leading end cut to a 45° mitre angle with a 0° bevel angle (i.e. a squared leading edge).
The test is conducted in accordance with a) and b), with the saw blade set to 0° bevel angle.
With the saw blade set at the maximum depth of cut, one complete rip cut of the workpiece guided
by the rip fence is performed at a cutting rate of approximately 1,2 m/min for each applicable
combination of workpiece thickness and workpiece leading end mitred angle orientations as
specified in a) and b) below.
a) 25 % of the maximum cutting capacity and
1) with a mitre angle of 45° right (+);
2) with a mitre angle of 45° left (−);
b) 50 % of the maximum cutting capacity and
1) with a mitre angle of 45° right (+);
2) with a mitre angle of 45° left (−).
The test is then repeated in accordance with a) and b), with the saw blade set to the maximum
bevel angle setting, but not more than 45°.
While conducting the test, the saw blade guard shall not be manipulated or contacted by devices
such as a push stick, push pad or a rip fence.
During the test, the saw blade guard shall not be displaced to a point where it contacts the cutting
edge zone of the saw blade and the riving knife shall not interfere with the passage of the
workpiece.
21 Construction
Add the following new subclause after 21.108:
21.109 Sliding table
For table saws with a sliding table, the sliding table shall be lockable in a position where the front
edge of the sliding table is in line with the front edge of the fixed part of the table top.
Compliance is checked by inspection.
