- Method 1 - Martindale: Circular specimens (38 mm diameter) are stretched over a modified holder (rubber sphere with a 20 mm flat test area) and abraded against a reference abradant following EN ISO 12947‑1 motions (Lissajous). Endpoints are recorded as number of rubs to thinning or hole. Important consumables and settings: woven felt substrate, abradant dimensions (≥140 mm), pressing weight (≈2.5 kg) and abradant replacement (start of test or after 50 000 rubs). Loading piece applies about 12 kPa.
- Method 2 - Abrasion on leg forms: Whole garments are stretched on volumetric leg forms (sizes based on MONDOPOINT) and abraded by a reciprocating slipper fitted with an abradant shoe. Typical test settings include a 10 mm stroke, periodic inspection intervals (100–500 cycles) and abradant paper such as SiC P1000. Foam backing, elastic retaining collars and soft brush are specified accessories.

- Minimum specimen counts (e.g., at least two specimens from heel and two from sole for Method 1); Method 2 commonly uses two pairs tested in three areas (total 12 specimens).
