This document specifies a method of determining the ability of adhesive bonds to resist long-term sustained load applied vertical to the glue lines. It is applicable to adhesives used in load-bearing timber structures.
It is suitable for the following applications:
a)   for assessing the compliance of adhesives according to EN 15425 and EN 16254;
b)   for assessing the suitability and quality of adhesives for load-bearing timber structures;
c)   for assessing the effect on the bond strength resulting from long-term sustained load at cyclic climate conditions.
This method is intended primarily to obtain performance data for the classification of adhesives for load bearing timber structures according to their suitability for use in defined climatic environments.
This method is not intended to provide data for structural design, and does not necessarily represent the performance of the bonded member in service.

Dieses Dokument legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Beständigkeit von Klebstoffverbindungen gegenüber einer senkrecht zu den Klebstofffugen einwirkenden Langzeitbelastung fest. Es ist anwendbar für Klebstoffe, die für tragende Holzbauteile verwendet werden.
Das Verfahren ist für folgende Anwendungsfälle geeignet:
a)   zur Beurteilung der Übereinstimmung von Klebstoffen mit EN 15425 und EN 16254;
b)   zur Beurteilung der Eignung und Qualität von Klebstoffen für tragende Holzbauteile;
c)   zur Beurteilung der Auswirkung von Langzeitbelastung bei zyklischen Klimabedingungen auf die Klebfestigkeit.
Dieses Verfahren ist hauptsächlich dafür vorgesehen, Leistungsdaten für die Klassifizierung von Klebstoffen für tragende Holzbauteile entsprechend ihrer Eignung zur Verwendung in festgelegten klimatischen Umgebungen zu erhalten.
Dieses Verfahren ist nicht dafür vorgesehen, Bemessungswerte bereitzustellen und gibt nicht zwangsläufig die Leistungsfähigkeit des verklebten Bauteils im Gebrauch wieder.

Adhésifs pour structures portantes en bois de type autre que phénolique et aminoplaste - Méthodes d’essais - Partie 1 : Essai de charge soutenue à long terme dans des conditions climatiques cycliques avec des éprouvettes chargées perpendiculairement au joint de colle (essai de la serre)

Le présent document spécifie une méthode de détermination de la capacité des joints adhésifs à résister à une charge soutenue à long terme appliquée à la verticale des joints de colle. Il s’applique aux adhésifs utilisés dans des structures portantes en bois.
Il est adapté :
a)   pour évaluer la conformité des adhésifs à l’EN 15425 et à l’EN 16254 ;
b)   pour évaluer l’aptitude à l’utilisation et la qualité des adhésifs pour les structures portantes en bois ;
c)   pour évaluer l’effet sur la résistance à la rupture d’un joint de l’application d’une charge soutenue à long terme dans des conditions climatiques cycliques.
Cette méthode est principalement destinée à recueillir des données de performance pour classer les adhésifs destinés aux structures portantes en bois en fonction de leur aptitude à l’utilisation dans des environnements climatiques définis.
Cette méthode n’est pas destinée à fournir des données pour la conception structurelle et elle ne reflète pas nécessairement la performance de l’élément collé en service.

This document (prEN 15416-1:2024) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 193
“Adhesives”, the secretariat of which is held by UNE.
This document is currently submitted to the CEN Enquiry.
This document will supersede EN 15416-1:2017.
This document is intended to harmonize the provisions in EN 14080:2013, B.2, EN 15497:2014 and
EN 16254:2023, Annex B and EN 16351.
It differs with respect to the following:
a) consistent specification of the test method for the determination of the long-term performance at
varying climate conditions in one standard;
b) reference to EN 16254 for EPI adhesives added in the scope;
c) Figure 1 and Figure 2 for connection device added;
d) alternative cutting scheme of the components of the test sticks presented in Figure 4.
This document includes the following significant technical changes with respect to EN 15416-1:2017:
a) dated reference to EN 302-3 changed to an undated reference;
b) terms and definitions added as Clause 3;
c) glue line thickness for different application areas in 6.1 described in more detail;
d) use of spacers with different thickness for preparation of test sticks added in 6.3;
e) editorial changes.
Introduction
This document is one of a series dealing with adhesives for use with timber structures, and is published
in support of the EN 1995 series, Eurocode 5: Design of timber structures. The series consists of five
classification and performance requirements for adhesives for load-bearing timber structures, phenolic
and aminoplastic adhesives (EN 301), one component polyurethane adhesives (EN 15425), emulsion
polymer isocyanate adhesives (EN 16254), two component epoxy and polyurethane adhesives for glued
in rods (EN 17334) and for on-site repair of cracked timber structures (EN 17418) and all together twelve
test methods (EN 302-1, EN 302-2, EN 302-3, EN 302-4, EN 302-5, EN 302-6, EN 302-7 and EN 302-8 and
EN 15416-1, EN 15416-3, EN 15416-4 and EN 15416-5).
