This standard specifies a method for determining the Vicat softening temperature (VST) of pipes and fittings (see note) of thermoplastics materials, based on method B of ISO 306:1987, i.e. using a force of (50-1) N and a rate of temperature increase of 50°C/h. A measure of the temperature is obtainable only for those thermoplastics for which the softening becomes rapid.

Diese Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Vicat-Erweichungstemperatur (VST: Vicat softening temperature) von Rohren und Formstücken aus Thermoplasten fest. Das Verfahren basiert auf ISO 306:1987, Verfahren B, d.h. es wird eine Belastung von (50-1) N und eine Temperatursteigerungsrate von 50°C/h angewendet. Ein Messergebnis für die Temperatur ist nur bei den Thermoplasten zu erhalten, bei denen die Erweichung schnell eintritt.

Cette norme spécifie une méthode d'essai pour déterminer la température de ramollissement Vicat (VST: Vicat softening temperature) des tubes et raccords thermoplastiques (voir note), adaptée à partir de la méthode B de l'ISO 306: 1987, c'est-à-dire utilisant une force de (50-1) N et un taux d'élévation de la température de 50°C/h. Une mesure de la température n'est réalisable qu'avec les seules matières thermoplastiques dont le ramollissement est rapide.
